Hat
«

Currently, I am wearing a stocking cap because it has been cooler out. I am looking for a hat to wear during the warmer part of the season and want to get it sooner than later so I can practice over the winter months. I would like it to have a brim but something other than a baseball hat that I have to turn around. What hat do you recommend?
Also, what hat do you wear when it gets colder out while hunting and shooting?

Watch the news and see what the Afghans wear. It is a topol I think. They are warm and flexible, but they do not give you a bill for defense from the sun. I like the ones I have for Fall hunting

I have two (brown & green) - best $10 hat for a bowhunter there is.
When the snow flies I like my wool Finnish M36 Field Hat with earflaps.

I can't wear a baseball type hat, even with a short brim. I wear a bucket/boonie hat, brand doesn't matter as long as the brim is relatively short and very soft. I have some larger boonie hats, but if I use them I flip the front of the brim up. I have a Columbia wool boonie that I like in moderately cold weather, but full-on cold rates a stocking cap of some sort. No full face stuff, because it messes with my anchor.

Big Jim sells the same hat as listed above ("bowhunter's lid") for same price. It's great, I have four of them currently. The wire brim folds up and stays out of the way of the string.

Another vote for a boonie hat. I don't like the way they look but it's hard to beat the functionality. I can pull the brim way down low if the sun is in my eyes. If a shot opportunity arises, I can use the string to flip the brim up out of the when I draw.

I like boonies.
I wear an el cheapo cotton one for warmer weather and this one in the pic is my go to for when the weather is a bit cooler.
It's from Gray Wolf woolens, wool in predator brown. It's lined with their older wolfskin. When the temps start dropping I wear a thin Kuiu merino stocking hat underneath.
Blocks the sun and doesn't affect my bowstring.

I just got a wool coupe cap (from TwoTracks) and I can't wait to actually wear it in the woods. It is pretty nice ! Made like a bowhunter would make it.

I love different hats, and have quite a few. But for me, you can't beat boonie/bucket hat in warmer weather. Mine is from Gray Wolf made out of their Wolfskin material. Lightweight, cool, and folds up to stuff in my pocket. For cold weather one of their wool bomber hats is on my head. Sure like the looks of Chuck's coup caps though. May have to try one of those baby's!
