I made the switch when I ordered my Black Widow back late 2012.... After shooting it in the basement for a couple months,  I quickly decided to go strictly trad.... I just killed my first deer last week and I will NEVER go back to wheels!

It's a commitment,  but stick with it! You will be glad you did. ..

I am shooting a longbow just because I never shot a recurve..... but I love it!

I would also get on the computer and see if there is a bowyer in reasonable distance from you and go see him, you may be surprised to find some close to you that you didnt know were from your area.

David, If your looking at Bear bowsyou might check with Big Jim, a sponsor here, a drive to south Georgia may be beneficial,

Take you time, look at the classifieds here, with that price range you could get a black widow that is really nice or a bunch of other top notch bows really a personal preference thing though.

I'd wait til spring and go to every trad shoot I could and shoot every bow that I could before making a decision.

It might be wise to sit in a ground blind either with your loaner or wall hanger and just see how much clearance you have. I can't fit any of my bows except my 52" kodiak magnum in a ground blind, so def check out your clearance before you drop the $$$.

A shorter bow is going to be a lot easier to maneuver in blinds, stands, through brush, etc., but i find a longer bow more comfortable and forgiving to shoot.

The classifieds are a great place to start. If you're just looking for your first bow and want to do it right, start with a used one. Custom bows are a whole different animal, and getting a used one will keep your costs down and the risk low if you don't like it.

Good luck sticking to just one at a time.  :)

I'm up in NW Ga, Rome.  (About 50 miles north of Atlanta) I really need to see and talk to someone who knows what they are doing.  Who long of a drive is it to you?

Thanks for your help,
David
