Need a big head to replace my Simmons
« on: November 03, 2014, 04:52:00 PM »
As much as I love my Simmons (and the blood trails they leave) I would like to find another broadhead with similar proportions (width verses length) that has a flat blade instead of concanve.  Just takes too much effort and special equipment to keep that edge on the simmons (sorry Rada doesn't even come close for me).  I enjoy being able to use a nicholson file and leather to get a razor edge.

Anyone have any suggestions for a replacement head?  I like the grizzlies but want a wider head.

Zephyr sasquatch is 1 9/16 wide, abowyer large bonehead 1 1/2, magnus 1 is 1 1/2. Cant think of any others but wish there were more wide heads as I like using flying meat cleavers for fast results and short blood trails.............just dont dig the new trendy skinny heads myself and use big 160 snuffers for 95% of my hunting........

Dave,
Have you tried this⬇️⬇️⬇️

I do mine differntly. I shoot Simmons and I can get shaving sharp in about 5min. I use a smiths sportsmans pal, and I ALWAYS steel my heads and knives but Rob has great luck with his file

I got some of the Zephyr Sirocco. They are an inch and 5/16. They fly good but they are still a wider cut than most.

Yep, love them easy to sharpen and best price out there. Been in business like 78 years that says a lot.

The Howard Hill heads are a true 3" to 1" ratio and roughly 160gr.. They are one of the best flying heads out there. This is JMO so take it with a grain of salt.

Zwickey delta, but if you're having trouble sharpening the simmons with a file try getting a chainsaw file to sharpen them with and then glue a piece of leather around a round rod (old arrow shaft, wooden dowel, etc...) and rub a small amount of toothpaste onto the leather. You should be able to get the heads pretty sharp just using the file and then stropping on the leather.
