TALL TINES DECISION TIME!

Alright guys I've been on the build list for a while now and its getting close to time for me to make a final decision on what I want to order.

When I got on the list I was set on a 58" short riser recurve, but know I am having second thoughts...

I draw 27" and prefer around #55 FYI.

Now here is my thing, Im getting married in January and this may be the last custom I am going to be able to get for a while, due to the fact that I will be saving for more "important things."

I currently have quite a few recurves in my arsenol and have really been enjoying my Morrison this season, but dont have any Longbows at the time. I have shot a number of Brians recurves and absolutely love the grip which is my reasoning for getting on the list in the first place.

However I have always heard great things about Brians longbows, their grip, shooting ability but havent had the chance to shoot one.

I am really tempted to go with either a 58" hybrid or 60" d style....

For those of you that have experience with these,

WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST DOING?!?

My hybrid is a 1 piece and not a TT but I really do like it.

What kind of lead time did Brian quote?

Go with the hybrid longbow. Same killer grip, and great bow from a better guy. That way, you will cure the longbow "itch" and you'll forget all about those recurves! Ha!

If there is one riser that can take both recurve and longbow limbs I'd go that route.  You could get the hybrid limbs and then later on you could get some recurve limbs.  If you can't swap limbs like that I'd go with the hybrid.  Best of both worlds.  Congrats on getting married!

My recurve is an unreal shooter. I've never shot the hybrid, but have heard great things about it.  Steve O owns both, hopefully he'll post a reply

No TT experience here, but have owned all manner of bows thus far.  Based on what you wrote, I would go with the hybrid...best of both worlds.  The D limbs will likely be the quietest of the bunch, and have that true D shape, but that only matters if noise level and the D look are most important.  The hybrid will likely be closer in speed to the recurve, almost as quiet as the D limbs, and probably more dead in the hand.  Win-win if you want to split the difference between RC and LB limbs.

My Talltines D-shaped bow is my all-time go to, kill something bow...it is 64" of smooth butter to my 30" draw. I own one of Brian's recurves and 2 of his hybrids. I like all of those too! However, I still keep hunting with my D-shaped bow. Depending on what you are looking for and at a shorter draw a 58" recurve, a 60" hybrid or 62" Dshaped is what I'd go with. Any of the 3 you will be happy with!

Love my D-Shaped LB.  Can't get any smoother on a draw, speed is almost as good and it's QUIET.

Quiet trumps speed any day!

I have one of Brian's TT D shaped Longbows and love it.  I had him custom make a riser for me, and it is more like a recurve riser than a Longbow.  This bow is my best investment to date.  

I too am on Brian's build list for a new Hybrid Longbow.  That will then be my best purchase to date.

I've had all of them and in various lengths. I too shoot mid to high #50's for weight and draw 27"s.

There isn't one that you'll be upset in getting...that said,, My 58" r/c at #58 and my new 60" hybrid at #56 are the two best for me. I shot the D shape unbelievably accurate but with my short draw really like the extra speed of the hybrid or r/c.

I've been busy so haven't posted pics and results of the "Stickflinger" hybrid, but gotta say it's hands down the nicest shooting hybrid I've owned or shot. Quiestest bow I've ever owned as well. It's phenolic and some sweet Bocote. (I'll post pics when it's put to good use in the next couple weeks)

I have just about very bow/riser/limb TallTines made. I got my Stickflinger Hybrid shortly before I left for Africa this summer. It tuned so easy and shot so well and hard it was easy to put to #1 bow.

I killed a great moose in the Yukon in 2002 with a rifle. Next year I will be moose hunting on a trip I have been dreaming of and planning since that day. I will be carrying a brand new TallTines Stickflinger Hybrid. They are a VERY special bow.

I'll never give up my TallTines recurves but in the situation you describe I would order the hybrid. I'll try to grab some pics later. PBS friends Kevin Winkler has the SF TT I should have had      and Bryan Burkhardt killed a big black wolf in Alaska this fall with  his SF TT ...I know they are extremely happy too.

Im believe I am going to go with the 60" #55@27".
macassar riser with myrtle accent stripe and overlay. Myrtle limbs/macassar caps with antler tips/bolts, and checkered handle.

Think that will look sharpe but open to other creative suggestions!
