Kansas deer will have to wait!
« on: November 10, 2014, 07:13:00 AM »
Well, due to the moon phase, we decided to start our Kansas hunt a week later than normal. Normally I'm up for a "little" change, but I have done so well in the last four years that I have mixed feelings.
Anyway, I'm excited...the weather report for next week is outstanding. I'm expecting single digits for lows and 30's for highs.

I have been fortunate to take 3 great 140" whitetails and one respectable mule deer in four years ...not to mention several does including my biggest ever "Big Jane!". I have also passed on several and couldn't close the deal on two mid 150's plus bucks before taking the mentioned bucks.

Why change? well why not? I figure if it doesn't happen during the new week, I'll just stay until it does  :)  ...I wish.

It may open up new beginnings. Maybe the bigger bucks are waiting to get excited. Well, I know this buck is excited and can't wait to make the trek. There is nothing I despise more about deer hunting than sweating while on stand and I won't have to worry about that!

anxiously waiting, BigJim

Kansas is a special place in November.  I'm guessing a week delay was a good call.  I'll sure be watching this to find out!

I think you may have done the right thing Jim! I have seen no chasing here other than a few little farts trying to herd a doe, unsuccessfully .

Also saw 2 bruisers together nite before last. The cold will hopefully get em goin too.

We just hung 2 stands between  bedding areas for the upcoming NW wind. I'll let you know whats happening by Thursday!

Good luck out there, and feel free to stop by and show me the goods on the way back!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

60 degrees when I came home half hour ago. Looking at a low of 27 tonight and a high of 35 tomorrow. Wind gusting to 35 MPH. Gotta love November in the sunflower state.

The weather forecast for the next 10 days looks steady highs in the 30's lows in the low 20's maybe a teen or two. Maybe some snow on the weekend.

They  should be gung ho for the next week or two. Good luck to all.

I'm so excited! working on the trailer...or it's working on me!
This will be its last trip for us and it is trying to tell me something. As of last night, water heater element was not functioning...fixed that and then the water pump acted up...same thing as last year. Eight days without a shower is not a pleasant thing. Doesn't make the wife very happy either.
That's ok, as it won't detour me from my destiny!

By February, we should have our new travel trailer built and she is going to be a biggie.

Anyway, I have been shooting my 3d range here in the mornings...just me and my dog. I have been readying four different bows for this journey. One bow of each of my models in various weights but all the same general velocity. I haven't found one that I shoot enough better than another to justify the "go to" bow so I will just keep alternating them for fun. I wouldn't want one bow to think I loved it any less.

In addition to this being a great time, it is my fill the freezer hunt. I have been fortunate enough to take no less than two deer and as many as four each year here. Tough for us to survive on only two. However, this year my wife has already taken four locally. Should be plenty of eats at the Babcock house.

My equipment specs:

64" Buffalo 2 piece (new of course:)) 66@32 shooting 7595 gold tip trad blems with 300 g BigJim/vpa heads

58" ThunderChild (nearly new  :)  ) 66@32 shooting the same arrow as above with same broadheads.

64" Buffalo 3 piece (new bow/newly designed) 62@32 shooting black and white ebony footed fur shafts with ace 145g two blade heads.

60" Desert Bighorn recurve (old bow new limbs). 55@32 shooting CX 150 heritage with 175 g Vpa two and three blade heads.

Did I mention I am excited ???

thanks, bigjim
