Thanks...going to the Doc tomorrow to see about getting a shot or some meds. Been having phantom back spasms for 3 days. Going to be tough to sit still all day like that. I really think the 15 hour drive will be the toughest though.

Oh well, modern medicine will probably fix everything so I can wait patiently for Mr. Big and Jane Doe.

Better pack a sleeping bag for the stand it was a cold one yesterday. We saw 9 different bucks chasing two different does, had all out fighting and the action was nonstop till about noon. It's going to be a busy week hope it's still going next week for you when you get here.

Watch the drive up, my brother got a buck with his new car last Friday coming home from work and my son got another Saturday night coming home from hunting.

Well, it looks like we won't be early, but worst case, I'll have to shoot the old guy as he saunters back to rest after a hard day with the girls...I can do that  :)

Hopefully they will be somewhat responsive to the calls as that is half the fun. The first Year I went to Kansas, I was amazed at how well the calls worked. The next three, not so much.

Hey, don't think because I'm leaving that things won't continue to operate here in my absence. The office generally runs smoothly without me except when people need advice....even then I think a lot of advice seekers just like to tell me how wrong I am  :)

Well, I made it back and didn't freeze...but it was close! Water pipes froze on my travel trailer, apparently we had a little water in the gas and it gelled in the generator and my blood certainly gelled a little too!

I was unable to connect on anything but the opportunities were there. It was a little slimmer than previous years and can't figure if we were too late or too early. I did see some chasing though and had two bucks come to rattling.

Three doe opportunities, two whitetail and one mule deer and no deer were harmed although I tried. I am sure I got my string caught in my coat twice and I think the doe dropped out from under my arrow on one miss.

I thought I had it covered and even practiced with the heavier clothes, but but but. I was just wearing so much. The first 4 days started out at between 4 deg and 12 deg and didn't warm up to more than 24 deg tops. Add 15 - 20 mph winds and a guy has got to bundle.

I'm already making plans for next years Ks trip but in the mean time I planning on giving the GA deer and pigs heck. Afterall, I can only take so much razzing from my wife. See, she already has 4 deer in the freezer.

Glad you at least had some opportunities.  That is some cold weather to deal with, for sure.  If I had that weather all of the time, I would buy a heater body suit.

Jim, Glad you enjoyed your trip. Glad the issues with the travel trailer were not too serious.

Now what to do with a Barbara showing you up so badly..... well it sounds like you have your hands full so I will let you handle that one.   ;)    :p
Relax,

Yeah, full hands but not full freezer. Oh well, there's always pigs!

I made the call to graywolf woolens and having them make me a "special" shirt to put under my non layered wool. I have a windstopper shirt about 10 years old that is a little small, but when I wear it under my wool, I can reduce layering by two articles...just working on next year.
Here in GA, too often I could hunt shirtless  :(

Anyway, the pigs are starting to come in good and we are going to start to focus on them in Dec.
My buddy/partner Preacher was called to aid another hunter in loading a pig over the weekend. When he arrived at the enormous dead pig, he noticed another pig at least as big walking back in forth through the headlights.
Seems the hunter shot a "in heat" sow and her boy friend was unwilling to leave the area.
Preacher retrieved his trusty "BigJim" Buffalo bow and shot the boar at close range as it advanced to him taking the big boy in the crease and angling back. Shortly after, Preacher made an attempt to retrieve his boar only to find out that the pig was unwilling to get in the truck....as of yet, no dead pig, no circling buzzards. Shoot and release!
Keep tuned as I will be starting a thread on this soon. We will be selling pig hunts for Jan - May of 2015.
Thanks ya'll, BigJim
