I say bitter cold and it was for Central Texas ( 26 with a 20mph North wind ) I'm not sure what the wind chill was but it was cold , so there I sit in a tree along the edge of the river an hour before sun rise. Did I say it was cold well it was to me but all my wool kept me from shaking out of my tree. The deer started moving right as the sun was coming up , had a good 10pt working several doe around back and forth for an hour. He would offer me several shots and I drew on him a few times but held off cause it was still early and our rut is on. I saw the 10pt look down toward the river then all his hair stood up and he layed his ears back , but only for a few seconds. I could not see what he was looking at but he could then as fast as he bowed-up he turned and looked like you just whipped a puppy and started sneaking the other way. When I looked back I saw why a big ol body with a wide rack was heading my way and that 10pt wanted nothing to do with him.......

I'm not going to drag this out all day ( about to load pics ) anyway I could tell at first sight at 50yds I would send an arrow if he would give me a chance. As the 10pt snuck off this buck went right for him just slowly walking him away , then he turned back and was looking at the doe that was 10yds in front of me. I guess she liked him cause she squated and pee then ran a little circle well he liked that and ran over and stuck his nose in it then did a neck stretched out lip-curl. So this is going on at about 10 or 12 steps right in front of me , I'm ready bow is up and he has no clue I'm around. I'm glad the wind is going at 20mph cause I know I'm shaking the giant old tree I'm in..

Was a windy morning, I opted for the ground blind this morning instead of the swaying tree...sounds like you did some good.

Ok did I say it was cold if I haven't I will say now for being in Central Texas it was cold gents. Well he is offering a shot that I can't pass up , so I draw lock on him for a few seconds and send a big Battle Ax head toward him. I shooting a 61# Horne longbow with a 750gr arrow and when that big Battle Ax head hit him it knocked him off his feet. Blood shot out like you just shot a red can of spray paint , once back on his feet he made a mad dash with not much help of his front legs. My shot was a touch forward but almost cut his heart in half and even at that he made it about 125yds before going down. He ain't the biggest buck I have ever shot but I'm sure proud of him , for the area I'm hunting he is a dandy old buck....

Ok here he is , he is an old 7pt buck and I'm sure glad to have him. He was a deer that I could not pass on from the first sight of him at 50yds or so I knew I would shoot. He was a deer for me that did not need a check with the binoculars.

A beauty!!! Congrats,and 20 with a 20 mile an hour wind is cold in Maine, so I am sure it was cold in Texas!

Outstanding, Sam! He does a good job of filling that hauler. I don't think I would have passed him either.
