Indiana hunters!
« on: September 29, 2007, 10:32:00 PM »
I have been fortunate enough to draw a millitary/refuge hunt for Muscatatuck national wildlife refuge! To make a long story short I have never been there and know almost nothing about the area. So I am looking for someone who is familar with the area or may have hunted it in the past to join me on a hunt there on November 7th! This should be a great time to be in the woods the rut should just be heating up! I am allowed to take one guest along on this hunt and would love to share it with a fellow tradganger, So if your interested please post here and/or send me an e-mail to [email protected] Hopefully someone here has some inside scoop and can partner up with me for this hunt!

Hello Adeeden,

I've never hunted there, so I can't be of much help. But here's a link to an Indiana Hunting site that are currently discussing this place. You might ask these guys some questions, they are usually very helpful.

Here's the link:

I have hunted there several times.  There are a lot of deer but they send in a lot of hunters too.  The deer are pretty educated but very huntable.  Waders are a good idea.  Have you checked it out from the sky on Google Earth?

Here it is on Google maps.

Also to add, get in there and scout before the 27th when their season starts.  It's a good idea to know where abouts you're going when in the dark lol. I got drawn for the 4th of November.  A lot of people hunt the back section so I would assume it would be the best area, but I've never hunted that section.

The deer get educated pretty quick up there. The first hunts are usally the best ones. Be prepared to sit the whole day.

Muscatatuck is a great place to hunt. Do a little scouting and plan to stay all day. Some of the best hunting is around lunch if you hunt the main area. If you pack in a little deeper the hunting is good all day.  The refuge has all types of terrain to choose from if you hunt near the marsh's dress warm, as there will be a steady breeze and mist.  Be sure not to venture into the area that are off limits and to be out of the refuge at the posted time. Stop at the visitors center near the main gate a pick up a map and guide. PM or email me if you would like more info.

EHD has hit pretty hard in that part of the State.  Don't know how it will effect the overall numbers.  Most people I've talked to say it's a great place to hunt.

Checked the mail last night and I have been drawn for Muscatatuck as well. If you would like to get together sometime and do some scouting send me an email and we can work out the details.
