A Stupid Reason To Miss Opening Day
« on: September 29, 2007, 11:19:00 PM »
I couldn't sharpen my broadheads!  :knothead:
This is the first year I am using "sharpen your own" two blade heads and I expected to sharpen them up just like I have knives.  I tried everything I own to get an edge.  They're still duller than a hoe handle.  I don't own a jig and haven't needed any in the past for other sharpening chores but looks like those days are over.
The heads were purchased over 40 years ago by my Dad who gave them to me unused.  They are designed for tapered wooden shafts but I tapered field points and superglued them on.  They fly great and are very heavy, 210 grains total, but are useless if they can't cut.  Oh well, the side of the house needed painted this morning, anyway.

I missed the opener too. I have missed a few. I am waiting on a windy day to get in the corn.

Redi Edge and ceramic sticks. About one minute to get them razor sharp.

Me too Hawkeye. We put up a couple stands last weekend...and donated a couple pints of blood. Weather doesn't look promising this week either.  :banghead:

Same here in Michigan. A line of thunderstorms heading my way coupled with forecasted sixty degree overnight temperatures resulted in me electing to spend opening evening shooting at my GlenDel Buck instead of chasing deer behind the house.

Try an accusharp.  It will sharpen any broadhead I have found so far...even Hill type heads with curved blade surfaces.
Well, who'da thunk it!
