miss smarty pants
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:54:00 PM »
did you ever have one of "those" does that is half a step ahead of you?--you know comes into set-ups before you have your bow pulled up into your tree--comes in down wind every time--blows for ten minutes when she does?!!
well yesterday at 3:15 I was 30yrds from my stand off the corner of a field [in the field]out of the corner of my eye-I see a doe watch me enter the tree line-I'm hoping she ignores me and she melted into the trees on her side--1-1/2 hrs later[last light]- I see her leading a group of does and young out into the field all the while watching my stand and moving just out of range into my wind busting me!!and warning all the does!
she knew right where my ladder stand was and but mocked me!!so this afternoon I slipped in with my climber to the corner where it appeared she liked to enter the field-well the wind was cold and blustery--far from perfect like most stories!
and at absolute last light -when I was about done!she trotted into the field from the only spot the wind didn't blow all afternoon! right into 18yrds broadside!

she bolted for 25yrds walked 5yrds and laid down!

a nice mature dry doe-perfect!
Mike

Tri State Terrors strike again! Nice healthy doe Mikey. I called Mike earlier as I'm heading down to meet him for an afternoon hunt, then spending the next 3 days bowhunting those Jersey deer along with Southpawshooter. By the way....score another for Mike's homemade Kittitiney Bows!        :notworthy:

Nice job.

I have one that does the same thing. I was taking a photo of one doe & a fawn didn't know this old doe was behind me until she started blowing.

I didn't hunt the stand for a week and had a good wind so tried it again. I had a deer walking by at 8 yds. Slowly reached for my bow and 30 yards behind the big old doe started blowing.  Since then I have watched her stand back and stare at my tree several times. She makes a wide circle around my ladder stand.

That's a big 'ol nanny! Good to get her out of the way so she can't educate all the young ones anymore!

Congrats,

Great job!  You just nailed one of the smartest critters in the woods!  That is a trophy for sure!  I wonder how old she is?

Good thing you took her out Mike. One less "teacher" for those deer. Congrats!

Way to go Mikey!    Good job buddy. Maybe you, Scott, and Skipper can drop by this weekend and kill my own resident nightmare- "Snortin Sally"... Heck I'll pay you guys to take her out! Busted me too many times to count and she's never content to snort just a time or two. She's good for 20 minutes of blowin' the alarm.

All kiddin aside, a big smart doe like yours is every bit the trophy as a mature buck, and probably even more. Congrats again!
