Well I had my first shot with recurve as I am new to Trad..and I...... MISSED!!!!...But I enjoy hunting with recurve..Guess I will be back out this weekend....

The first one is always the hardest but the education you get along the way stays with you forever. If it was easy I would have lost interest a long time ago. Accept the challange, enjoy each day afield, and respect the game you hunt.

Your first loosed arrow result is most common especially if you were not on top of the target when executing the shot.

Initial expectations are typically far from being met. The grand and fufilling rewards will incrementally uvneil themselves as you develop form and continue to persevere.

Hopefully you had hundreds of shots at targets and dozens of shots st stumps BEFORE the first shot at deer.  Keep at it.

Wait for a good ahot, but remember a shot not taken never succeeds.  It will happem.

Also, don't forget to "aim" at the smallest spot you can see on the animal's vitals and shoot at THAT. I just logged another miss this last weekend because I forgot to "PICK A SPOT"! Congratulations on getting a shot, that is 90% of the battle. The rest is picking a spot....

Keep at it, I wouldn't be able to count how many times I missed and how many years it was before my first connection. When it does happen,........... WOW what a feeling!!!!

Just make sure to keep practicing during the season, and I promise it will not be your last miss either but better a clean miss than a bad hit.

I need to keep remembering to stay focused on the spot I am aiming at. Cost me a nice 8 pt this year as I am sure I glanced up at the rack as I released and of course went high.

Don't worry, I missed 4-5 times before I finally connected with the trad bow. A couple of those misses were on the same animal that gave me a second chance! Keep at it, when it finally comes together there is no better felling!

Know when to pick your shots, preferably quartering away, anticipate string jump if the animal is tense. Aim at the pocket between the leg and the underbelly, if 9/10 times the deer will "duck" right into the arrow. However preferably take a shot when the animal isn't looking at you or has any idea you are there.

Keep your head down, bend at the waist from a treestand. Follow through. Relax, or at least try too;-)

The pursuit is worth it. I missed the first seven deer I shot at with my longbow. Got my first two deer with it last weekend.

Missing certainly is a part of traditional bowhunting as it is in any type of hunting.  Its also a great disappointment when you watch in disbelief as your arrow sails either over or under your quarry.  Still, we keep on trying our best to concentrate on that one hair lying over a deer or black bear kill area hoping to cut that hair in two.  Sometimes we do cut it in half but most times, we fail to "pick a spot" and the game gets away unscathed.  Still, its a blast and I've been at it for over forty years and love every minute of it.  Don't give up, it'll come.
