Kuiu sale frustration
« on: November 21, 2014, 04:17:00 PM »
Leaving a bad taste in my mouth.  I was all excited to order a lot of stuff(a few hundred dollars worth).  Everything I want is on backorder and sale is no good on backordered items???  This seems wrong to me.  Is it my fault that they do not have items in stock?  I have no problem waiting for my items but atleast honor the sale prices.  Tried to call about 30 times as well with no luck.  Is it just me or is this standard practice?

I too signed up to get their emails with sales and so on and everytime I'd pull up thier website it seemed like almost everything was on back order... click on the item then click on the color and then click on the size and then yep it's on backorder.
I gave up and bought stuff from Firstlite and am very happy with the stuff I got.

Yep same here. Pretty bummed. Every sine thing I wanted is on back order and they told me the guide stuff would be in stock beginning of November. I had called beginning of October.
I think they missed out on making a real nice chunk of change today.

Yep, they missed out on a sale to me today as well.   I was ready to spend a good chunk of change.  Everything I wanted was backordered.  I'm not saying I won't still buy their products, but I'll certainly check out their competition before I do.

Dang if your order something on a sale it should be at the sale price unless they say limited to stock on hand.

I agree with Mike, but that is not uncommon.  Cabela's does it all the time.  I was lucky enough to order a super down jacket in my size.  25 percent off is no joke.

Placing the order was a little tough.  My computer kept freezing up, and good luck getting someone on the phone.  Just kept getting busy signal.

KUIU has good stuff that is cheaper then Sitka BUT this is an ongoing issue with them and their business model. At times the customer service and availability is frustrating at best

Right, it is an inventory clearance sale and from a business standpoint I completely understand that.  High end clothing like that constantly need to move out the old before bringing in the new. I don't know how they could ever do that without offering steep discounts, but only on in stock items.

I am currently shopping for a bicycle for my wife for Christmas. My local shop has a great sale coming up next week but only on in stock items. Naturally the model and frame size I want isn't in stock. But I do understand why a bicycle shop would want to reduce inventory this time of year.

I was able to pick up a Kuiu bino harness which was the only thing I was looking for. The computer issues were a bit frustrating, but I eventually got it through.

I guess I was lucky.  I got all three items I was interested in.

Whip,
That's OK IF YOU STATE IT.  If you don't, it falls under the heading of false advertising.

I've come to expect this from online retailers.  To Whip's point regarding bicycles, "sales" are often ways to reduce inventory (brick and mortar or online), not necessarily make me happy that I saved money.

Sorry you found this frustrating.

That was my major problem with it all.  In my email I received it did not say anything about "instock" items only.  I just re read the add and it does say not for backordered items.  I took that to mean previously backordered items.

I love their gear and wanted to stock up.  25% off would have been a great savings.

I too placed an order today.  Could not get one item in the color I wanted so chose another.  Website order wouldn't work, called 20 times & got a busy signal.  Noticed on the website the phone # had a blue skype symbol next to it so I clicked on it & was able to make a Skype call to them on the computer.  They answered 2nd ring & I completed my order.  If you have Skype give that a try.

I agree; it really should say: limited to stock on hand, if that's what they mean. If a Sears sale says 25% off on some saw or drill, they mean 25% off if you buy it during the sale, whether they have it in stock or not.

I guess I hadn't read it that way, although I see where you're coming from.  When I read no back or are orders I just assumed that many in stock only.  They could have used more specific wording and not left it open to interpretation.

Too bad they didn't have more in stock for you guys that were looking for other things.  But I do still understand the concept behind deep discounts to reduce current inventory.

Personally, I don't like the other end of the spectrum with many merchants where "sale prices" become so prevalent that you feel ripped off if they aren't discounted. They mark the MSRP up so high just to immediately discount it so you feel like you are getting a "deal".  I'd much prefer a fair price upfront.
