My New Toelke Super D!
« on: December 13, 2014, 07:11:00 AM »
Well...I have had it for about a month now and I am absolutely love this bow!  It took me a while to get the images on the computer and hopefully the show in this post.  It's a beauty...walnut cores, pao ferro limb veneers, beaver tail grip (which will be on every bow I get from here on in.  Originally I asked Dan to do an ebony riser. When I saw his stabilized maple risers on his website I emailed him and asked to change if he hadn't already started it.  It turned out real well.

I wanted something subtle that would blend in the woods...no harsh contrasts with light and dark wood.  He nailed it. Also, it shoots very well.  Typical of a Toelke bow...quiet, stable, and quite fast actually.

I am shooting full length GT7595 black arrows, 100 gn inserts with 175 heads and 2x5" fletching.  This bow throws them with authority.  I haven't taken anything with it, but just walking through the woods with it in hand makes me very happy.  Just wanted to share...(hopefully the pics will post)

I have had Dan make me a number of bows, both Whips and recurves. I have ended up shooting a couple of Super Ds almost exclusively. I will admit that the H.S. Whips Dan makes are the finest shooting bows I have ever shot and I still have a 64" Classic. With that said, the bow that I enjoy shooting the most is still the Super D, there is something almost magical about them and I agree with you on the bow's manners, exceptional speed and they are indeed QUIET.

For me, I'll never own a bow I love more than my Super D and that's one beautiful bow.  The start of a great relationship

Thanks for the kind words everyone.  I am still getting used to shooting a D-shaped bow, but it is coming along.  I have changed quite a bit of my shooting style so I am not only getting used to the bow, but everything else as well.

Mike G...your comment about laying it on the ground rings true.  I was out one morning and laid it on the ground, turned around and it actually took a couple seconds to locate it.  It blends real well in the dead leaves.  And yes...I shoot only a 2x5" fletching...more than one way to skin a cat I guess.  It works so I kinda just stuck with it.  I did however, bare shaft tune my arrows.

awbowman...I am already putting a wood combination together for my next one!  It's a sickness I tell ya.

Regards,
Bill-

Mines Cocobolo riser and XX yew limbs, bamboo and yew cores.

I hear Dan has some crazy myrtle.

God willing, I'll one day have  a TD Super D with a heavy arrow and climb the mountains one more time for Mr.  Wapiti.  Until then I haunt the palmetto jungles after Mr.  Whitetail

Incredible!
I echo Jims sentiments, Dans HS whips are perfect in every way but I spend more time with the Super D in hand. It IS something special.

I'm really liking that bow. That wood looks so nice, and the beaver grip seems like a perfect compliment to me. Very nice!

Thanks everyone.  I tell ya, I have been tweeking some adjustments on my shooting and things are coming along nicely.  I think the Super D and I are gonna get along quite nicely.  Did some shooting this morning and it was one of those times when everything just fell into place...decided to quit while I was ahead.

awbowman...we think alike! I was thinking yew cores and xx yew veneers or juniper.  Haven't quite decided on a riser and I am a ways from ordering...probably summer.

tzolk...I was hoping you'd chime in.  I have read some of your reviews on Dan's site which have been helpful in my decision on which bow to go with.  I know you have a longer draw as well.  Just curious...where is your brace height running on your Super D?  I have settled right at 7 inches for now and seems to work well.  I may toy with going a little lower; just to see.

Thanks for the "report".  I just traded into a Super D and really look forward to shooting it.  I'll probably start shooting it in leagues after this deer season winds down.
