? Anybody have outfitter berber fleece?
« on: December 15, 2014, 03:56:00 PM »
From Cabela's with the windstopper in it?

From their site....

"Because of the 1/2"-thick pile Berber fleece, they are completely silent, which you’ll appreciate when closing the distance on game. For even more warmth and comfort, the added feature of WindShear prevents the wind from getting to your body and robbing warmth."

Wondering how warm and are they really silent?

Thanks in advance!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Hey Kenny, I've got the wooltimate with windshear and I love it. It is quiet and very warm. I know that's not what u asked but that's my 2 cents and that's gotta be worth at least .03! Lol

I have the fleece with windstopper.......it's silent and the windstopper works. I have the pullover-1/4 zip with the hood. Light longjohn top and a sweater with the fleece, I would say you would be into the mid 20 degree zone. It will pick up burrs and burdocks........

I,ve got it. It is warm and quiet enough for close range encounters. My only complaint is I don't think it has enough contrast between the light and dark.( I have the dark brown ) Thinking about taking some diluted bleach water and trying to lighten up some areas to give it more contrast.

you may have to run it through the washer and dryer a few times to break the windshear material.

I also have the wooltimate, it is very quiet.
I think they are both very similar, exept the wooltimate has 23% wool incorporated into the fleece. and it is warm. ya...it loves burrs!

I have some.  I like it, although it is quite bulky and a bit heavy, almost like wool, really.  I don't find it loud, but it is warm, too warm for down here 90% of the time.

I used it in Nov during the cold snap in Ohio this year - the outfitter series, and it is one of the warmest suits I have ever worn.  Period.  And I have top rated wool with wind blocker and a host of other jackets/bibs.  I don't think the camo is bad at all, it is absolutely dead quiet.  But as others have stated it is bulky and I carried mine to the stand where I put it on.  I also used my safety harness to tighen it down so it would not be as bulky... had no problems there after.  Gets a solid 4 stars from me with one star deduction for bulkiness.

Berber is my go to cold weather gear.  I think it blends good even when all the leaves are gone because it does absorb light Don't think I have ever been busted wearing it.  Good stuff.

Thanks guys!!

Terry, that is the exact color and all that I've been ogling.

I have some Columbia wool and love the light absorbing texture of it.

Looks like better pockets for gear on jacket would be nice tho.....

What kind of temperatures are you guys talking about? I was sitting in below 0F and am looking for something to handle those temps in a treestand.

I have the pullover and bibs, both with windstopper. It is quiet and light absorbing but don't try to walk far in the bibs-found them too bulky and you'll sweat up a storm in them. Have worn them in 5 degree weather and with longjohns, wool sweater, and thinsulate jeans stayed toasty warm. A little bulky but if carried in they are great for long sits in cold dry weather-would not wear it in heavy rainy weather.

I have the jacket and pants without the windstopper layer. super quiet and pretty warm down to around freezing, with proper layering.

I bought some of the extra-thick bibs during the St. Jude auction 2 years ago, and that stuff is MEGA warm! only problem is you look like the Michelin man when wearing it, haha! it's seriously thick.

I have always stayed away from the windstopper, because I have read it is noisy.

check out the recent thread on First Lite for my thoughts on their Sanctuary jacket, if interested.

Kenny, I'd lean more towards the outfitter wool. Fleece in that nap will take a little time away from your hunting picking those Missouri burrs out.

Actually got to look at a jacket a few minutes ago. Not too loud it seems.

Never been in a dryer either which is sposed to help make it quiet I hear?

Mike, we don't have any burrs anymore, they are all in my wool !

Seriously tho, will the wooltimate be that much better on not getting burrs?

I never have any problems with burrs but we don't have many where I hunt.  I was in Colorado elk hunting this year and the burrs were unbelievable.  Was wearing Kuiu attack pants that are burr proof I thought, not.  They come off pretty east though but not on your string puffs, wow.
BTW There is an wooltimate XL jacket in the classifieds for $75.

I didn't care for the windstopper lining and went for the regular stuff.  I thought it was noisy.  But I really like my regular vest and 1/4 zip hoody.  Yep, it picks up burrs,  but it does prevent the brrrs! And is VERY quiet. I had it on Nov. 14th with a stiff Northwest Iowa wind and temps in the teens.  Long johns and a sweater.  Plenty warm and I"m cold blooded.  The downside is its a little bulky.  Order big, they run small.

I've got the outfitter camo extreme berber bibs with windsheer.  They are extremely warm and totally silent.
