Rust on broadheads?
« on: October 01, 2007, 02:09:00 PM »
STOS broadheads have been put up for three weeks.  Pulled them out to touch them up for this next weekend and found them rusting.  I have tried some fine sandpaper with some wd-40 which has helped alot but not enough.  Obviously I am going to have to put a new edge on them when I get the rust off so how about using a wire wheel?  Any advice is appreciated.  God bless.  DT

I use a wire brush, then resharpen them... then you can put vaseline on them to help keep the rust from coming back.

Maybe they were in a dampish area or no ventilation. That sounds like a bit of surface rust; the sharpening process is going to get rid of any rust in the important areas. I use some chap stick or vaseline on the edges when I'm done.

Chap Stick.  Forgot who came up with that, might have been TooShort.

Use a black permanent marker to go over the sharpened edges.  Sounds crazy but the little bit of ink will keep the rust off.
