Northern Mist Longbows Steve Turay
« on: December 16, 2014, 12:32:00 PM »
Yesterday I went up to Steve's shop to shoot some pictures, hang out and pick up my new longbow.
Here is a write up and pics I did while I was there.

Excellent article and pics!

My only encounter with Steve was by phone when ordering my Shelton and when it was shipped 6 months later.

BTW, he shipped the bow to me before full payment was made, so I know he's a great guy to deal with.

Again...good stuff here.

I got a classic from Steve a few years ago at the Baltimore shoot . I was looking at a shelton and said man that's nice.  I told Steve I didn't have the money . He said take it home and pay me later!     That will allways stick in my mind. A better guy will be hard to find. . O did I mention his bows. Are fantastic.

Great story and for sure a great guy.  He remembers me and my son by name each year we see him at rendezvous.  We really missed him at Denton this year, he was the only bowyer that brought decent hunting weight bows with him.

Excellent article and photos!!  I'm a little jealous!  NM has been on my list of bows to own/try for a good while now and this article only reinforced that desire.

It's nicer when Steve travels to get to you...   ;)    :p

Here's Steve at our Shrewhaven camp this fall:

  [/IMG]

He wanted to check out how Roger Norris was shooting the Northern Mist Whisper he built for him a couple of months earlier:
  [/IMG]

At least that was his excuse, however I think he really just wanted to have dinner with us and shoot the bull instead of bows (he's in the right foreground rocking chair swapping lies with Tim Cosgrove of Kustom King Archery after dinner):

  [/IMG]

Steve's a good guy and a real treat to sit around camp with and he builds a great bow.

I spoke to him over the weekend and the day you were there, he was going to ship my Shelton.

Great bowyer and nice guy.

I have a Shelton coming from him and a Whisper I used to own, I bought back from a fellow Tradganger.

He must be a wimp since you over emphasized the weight of his bow. lol   :biglaugh:

Neat stuff for sure.

I personally believe that when Steve becomes your friend, he truly is your friend.

Steve travels two times yearly to Alabama, for the Pre-Spring shoot and the Howard Hill Classic.

This past year, because my wife didn't have a Hill style bow, he surprised her with one of his.  It's a beautiful bow, according to my wife, a sweet shooter as well.

But, it goes beyond that for me.  I knew Steve was a special person when he took the time to make sure he got my wife a beautiful plant sent to her room when she was in the Hospital a few ears ago.  We really hadn't been around Steve that much, but to me, that told me all I needed to know about the kind of person Steve is.

Nice article and great pictures. Thanks for sharing. No doubt, Steve Turay is the real deal. I met him years ago at one of our shoots in Baltimore. He still makes it back there almost every year. He's been kind enough to take time to discuss bow design with me and even critique a few of my very amateur longbows. When they leave his shop, his bows are flawless.

I really enjoyed the article and was very impressed by the pictures of his shop. Thanks for a well done presentation. You are right, Steve is a really nice guy as well as a top rate bowyer. I have met him a couple of times at the Howard Hill shoot at Tannehill and found him to be a very pleasant and likeable fellow. I bought a green glass Shelton last year. He makes good stuff!

Steve's a great guy and a great bowyer.  Hard to beat.  I looked at that last picture and thought I could smell a wood stove.

Steve is a great friend and a great bowyer. I live at one end of Michigan and he lives at the other....yet I am positive if I called him for help he would be down here as fast as his Ford pickup would get him here.
