Check out my new project for the little ladies
« on: December 19, 2014, 11:32:00 AM »
My first two children are girls, so I had to come to grips very early that it would take some creativity to get and keep them interested in the outdoors and especially archery.  In our house I tried to hold back the tide of pink and flowers but it was like trying to hold back the ocean tide, pointless.

So what could I do?

...Go all in and lose a few man points in the process of course.  This quiver seems excessively girly but that was the whole point.  I guess it could have been worse (or better depending on your perspective), there's no glitter or bling yet.

It took a lot more time to make than I had anticipated but it actually turned out very well and they love it.  This first one was hopefully the hardest as I worked through the design process.  I have several more that I have started so let me know if you have some princesses that need a little more style and incentive to join you with their bows.

Good Luck! The quiver looks great. I have Girls also.. My oldest likes to deer hunt with me, and my youngest prefers to dove hunt (because she can talk).

Very cool.  They should blend in Great in a field of wild flowers.   ;)

Having raised two daughters, I feel your pain! Mine were constantly exposed to hunting and fishing.  Now. Grown one would rather fish than anything.  Her prize possession is her 21' Lund.

The other limits it to camping, but the payoff has been the five grandsons who are always ready to accompany me on all my hunting and fishing adventures.

That quiver is cute.  Can you post a bit more on materials and assembly?

How can you possibly lose man points when making something for the ladies!  Excellent job and way to think outside the box!

Taking care of the little ladies and helping them enjoy our sport is the most man point gaining thing we do.
Anything that makes 'em smile is worth the effort.
Great job.
My daughter is about to turn 20 now and just joined the Ithaca College Archery club.
I started her shooting at 4. She dragged a few of her NY City girlfriends in with her too!

Thanks so much guys.  It is encouraging to hear about your older daughters and that they still enjoy archery and the outdoors.  Mine are still young, 7 and 9 so it is easy to entertain and engage.  One of our annual highlights is out multiday backcountry backpacking trips.  It hasn't been easy or perfect with our young family but they'll only remember the best parts anyway and it has been so fun.

The body of the quiver is PVC with a cedar plug in the bottom. The top is trimmed with white rabbit fur and the bottom with dyed leather lacing.  It took some experimenting to find what adhesives would work with the pvc, leather, and fabric but a combination of several got the job done.

My daughters helped make it and my oldest is especially interested making a little business of out it.  That is also encouraging because we have taught them since they were very little to be industrious and entrepreneurial.  If they get their way you'll see a wide selection of these little quivers.

You have to have sparkles, & paint.  Then let them put stickers anywhere they want even if it means covering your fine wood grain.

That's pretty cool!!

I first made a basket quiver for one of my daughters from an old easter basket. She loved all the colors. Now that she is a big girl (11) she has a quiver like Dad. Now I have another little girl (6) getting ready into it. You are doing great work.
