Your draw length?
«
on:
December 27, 2014, 12:42:00 PM »
As I look at the classifieds, I often see bows that I would like, but they are too heavy for me. With a 30" draw, the poundage goes up quickly, and are out of my comfort range.
I don't know how many people can handle the heavier weights, or if they actually draw somewhat less than 28".
What is your draw length, and which catagory do you fit in, if either one?

30". Maybe a metric hair more with more back tension. I've settled on bows no higher poundage than 51@28 due to my sensitive bow arm shoulder. Need to work out more really.

With a recurve 26" with a longbow 25.5 for poundage 65-72 pounds! At 61, I can handle those weights in tournament shooting and it doesn't hurt for hunting either! I plan on shooting heavy weights as long as I can control the shot! Jacques

It really all depends on the bow type.My recurve I draw 28 with my asl longbow I draw about 26 1/2. You will lose some lenght due to handle design,so take that into account if you are looking for a diifferent bow than you shoot now.

My Silvertip and Tall Tines are both 58# @ 28", I draw 29 which puts me at about 61#s. I was drawing 75# on my Custom Bighorn but I had to drop some weight due to shoulder and neck problems. I also have a few bows in the low 50's @ 28"

Depends on the grip. With my Blacktail recurve (high wrist) it is 28, with my Shrew Samurai it is about 27.
Going to do some experimenting, because in cold weather hunting I suspect I am drawing shorter. If so, I am thinking I would be best served with a slightly weaker splined arrow.

45# @ 26" is what my Kodiak Hunter scales. I can shoot a little heavier, but that is what I have right now.

About 29.25", I can hit 30" if I really stretch out target shooter style.
Just find a bow that pulls smooth 2-3# / inch past 28" and you'll be fine.
You see the bows in my sig. I like 45-53 @ my draw.

28 1/2-29 depending on the bow. I've shot around 70 pounds for years and just dropped to 60

Just a shade over 29", KAT knows this as he was the one has measured it more than once. I like to be 41-47#'s at 29". I can go with more poundage but it tends bring out my target panic......and who needs that!!. Years ago I had a 55# Bear Kodiak Hunter that I shot well.....at my draw that had to be 57-58#, I'm to old for that now.

I draw a hair under 30" (29 7/8 if we are being particular), and my bows are 67-74# @ 28".
I shoot t/d longbows that are 62-66", and i have chosen them for the lack of stacking at the longer DL.
