King of the Mountain sizing help
« on: December 31, 2014, 06:52:00 AM »
I am looking at getting a pair of KOM pants and a shirt but have never worn anything but a jacket. I wear a 36" pant and was wondering if they fit tight or loose enough around the waist in order to get a base layer on or would I be better going with a size bigger?

I would order your pant size because they have adjustment tabs on each side.  I sold my KOM and got Gray Wolf Woolens much tighter weave and a lot warmer.

I switched from KOM to Silent Predator.  I killed the fit wand warmth of them better.  Nothing wrong with KOM though.  There sizing does seem to be true to fit. I always up size in my wool clothing to compensate for a heavier base layer.

I have read a little about Grey Wolf Woolens. I completely forgot about that company. Might look into them a little more, especially if it is a tighter weave than KOM.

KOM is quality stuff but I bought several jackets, vests and pants from Silent Predator. All very quality wool products at a much lower price.

The looser weave actually makes them a better insulator (think puffy down or attic insulation) just not as good of wind barrier but no wool is a great wind barrier. I have KOM, gray wolf and DayOne wool and like them all. DayOne was the cheapest when I bought it and they definitely leave room for layering.

I think the KOM has a tighter fit.  I like that.  My Silent Predator is a lot baggier.  But I still love them.

Kom is designed to be tight against your body to give you plenty of string clearance. Used it on a Mountain Lion hunt at -30 never been cold

I borrowed a KOM Jacket this past fall from a friend on here and really liked it. I just need to make up my mind after trying some different brands and go with it. I wore Cabelas Berber fleece on my Alberta hunt in November and have yet to see a product better than that for cutting the wind and mobility. Love that stuff.

Might be just me, but I've found that with KOM I need to go up a size to get the proper fit. I've never tried on their pants but the long tailed vest I owned in 2xl needed to be a 3xl. "Cacciarore" above makes a good point however, as does Keith Zimmerman. If possible, try before you buy.   :banghead:
