Trains, Planes, and a pair of Crows.......
« on: January 02, 2015, 11:24:00 PM »
My buddy and i thought it would be a good day to spend in the woods this afternoon, especially with the lousy weather coming for Saturday.

He was picking me up, and I thought I would bring along the Jet Sled as we were going to be off the beaten path today.

They work for other things besides dragging deer out.

Here's another view. All my stuff in the sled...Waldrop, pack, coat, vest, bow, etc.  Slid in the back of his pickup really slick and hey,if we needed it, it was in the truck.

So we headed up to the Game Lands this afternoon. One other car in the parking lot pretty much told us we were going to have the place to ourselves.

We were heading to the meadows, and they are a pretty good jaunt to the backside of this real-estate. Often in the late season deer come into these to eat what clover may still be around.

Deer poop is always a welcome sign.....even if it's old!

So my buddy was heading to a little pit blind of his on one end of the field and I was heading out to the other end. Wind was coming out of the west but we were going to be a couple hundred yards apart.

The meadows are nothing more than large areas of timbered off ground that have been planted with various grasses and clover for the wildlife.

Just had to stop and sit my Toelke Classic on this stump .....

I have been shooting it in the cellar, but this is the first time out hunting with it.

Late season around my area in Pa. is like trolling for Walleye. Somedays you get into them and some you don't.

I got out my squirt bottle of xxxx deer formula and layed down a scent trail. You never know who is still looking.

Anyhow, it was about 2:30 when I got the Waldrop all situated and  settled in for the wait.

Where they make these meadows they just push all the big timber off to the side, they make excellent hides. The "wood burner" part in me makes me shake my head. A couple views from where I am sitting.

This is behind me and slightly off to my left. There is a bench that runs east and west there.

It wasn't met to be tonight. Total sightings were 2 planes, a pair of crows, and heard the North Shore locomotive heading south on the tracks.

Never even had to get the Whip off it's branch. Oh well, that's the late season. Man, it's getting cold.......

Looks like a great day out, with a beautiful bow to admire during the slow times.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
