After taking the Alaskan moose early in the hunt, I had an extra week off work to add to the two weeks already reserved for whitetail hunting. Adding to that extra days and weekends, I spent a lot of days chasing big bucks this year. In our area we went through two years of EHD deaths in a row, so this season my brothers and I were a little reluctant to shoot any of the nice 3 ½ and 4 ½ year old bucks. I saw quite a few good bucks including a 7 ½ year old buck we have been after for 4 years and several in the 160 to 180 class.
I did take a doe at close range, and missed a couple coyotes who like to jump the string. Ha! Mid November was very cold as well as the late season, so I got my fill of all day sits in -0 wind chills.
During mid November, my brother David got bit by a feral cat that infected his wrist and hand causing them to swell up into a good portion of his forearm. He was hospitalized for 6 days, but antibiotics finally took over the bacteria, averting surgery. He lost a good portion of his hunting though.
My brother Mark took good 5x5 buck with double droptines through the chest with a stone head. Mark, myself, and Gene should be at the Expo in K-zoo at the end of Jan.
I still have 3 more days to hunt this season, so I hope to have more stories by then. Mike
