Quillian Canebrake
« on: January 16, 2015, 07:08:00 PM »
Just traded a fellow out in Indiana for a bow I have heard about and wanted to try.  I've often heard the Canebrake was a flat-shooter.  Well, I'm here to tell you, this thing spits lasers.  It's marked 66# (I have also read that the weight was calculated on a 26" draw) so it may be higher than 66#.  I draw 28" and my 30.5" 2317's and 200 grains up front literally sizzle and smack into the target.  It came with a string that braced at 7.25". It shot with a lot of hand shock, so I put a new Dacron string on and set the brace at 6", now it's smooth and quiet.  I got it as a work-out bow and to play with during the off season. Here are a few pics...

The Canebrake will handle FF strings but the brace height Dan recommended was 6-6 1/4". I sold many of these bows along with the Patriot T/D.

nice looking bow! sounds like a beast!
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

My first recurve that I bought myself was a canebrake, and they are flat out shooters! I have been able to shoot just about any arrow out of mine, it's 62" 50@28", only arrows I've found that wont fly good are barrel tapered ash spined 50-55#s. Draw is smooth, and as said above they are fast! It's the one bow that i'll never part with.
Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

I had the same bow, 66# at 28 in.draw. Bought it from Dan when he had an archery shop in Athens (I believe) Georgia. My first 'Custom" bow, I believe they were made by Jerry Archery. I wish I still had it.

The canebrake and patriot takedown are stone cold meatmakers. They are best spray painted olive drab......
"The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect" - Benjamin Franklin
