We are finishing up something that has never been done before. Frankly, we're very excited about it. One of the complaints we got from viewers of Primal Dreams was that it was too long for use in schools, hunter education programs, etc. We are about to release a condensed version, edited especially for schools, hunter education programs and non-hunting family/friends. It will end up around 45 minutes in length, using selected footage and music from the original but with more (added) narration on "why we hunt" to portray philosophy and ethics to those who need to hear our message the most. The retail cost will be considerably less than the long version and bulk rates to organizations are very possible. Does anyone have any ideas how to distribute these in mass to schools, hunter ed groups, etc. across the country? Think of the boost hunters would get if this condensed edition got into thousands of schools across the nation. Thanks.

The Archery in Education Program might be a great way to get it in. You could talk to these people and have it become part of the whole package that schools recieve.

I have only read a little about the program (I feel terrible being in Education) so I can't give you more information about it.

GREAT STUFF GENE, HOPE YOU CAN GET THESE OUT TO SCHOOLS!

Listing your video with Bowkers would be a good start. Both libraries and educational institutions, as well as many others, use this listing service to purchase books and videos.

Good luck with that. I'd sure like to see Primal Dreams in the hands of non-hunters as well as hunters. Especially the young folks.

get help from members here to let the schools near them know about it. My nephew does archery in his school...I can pass on any info you have to the schools if you want me to...

I hate to be the one that suggests it but Matthews is one of the leaders in getting archery into the schools.  You may want to contact them.  Maybe they could send a copy of that dvd with every ten bows or something that someone orders.  Make it a prereq for starting the program on the ethics and real reason for archery in the field.  I know I know they make and sell compounds but this might a great chance here to use the power of mass media to get into the schools.

Im sorry for posting about compounds but they came to mind first.

As others have mentioned, I think the NASP would be a great source to get the videos into the schools.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

I am a hunter ed instructor in Indiana.   Depends on cost but I think we could incorperate it into our class's.    Our state has a lead cordinator and I will get the information and forward it you Gene.

If you are going to be at the ATA show in Indy this year you might try a set up there.

Also another one to consider it go to the International Hunters Education Association's 2008 Annual Conference on May 28 - 31, Fairview Heights, IL

Gene- would definitely like to get some of those for our NBEF Classes. There are more and more "new to the sport with no mentors" coming to the classes...would be a great addition.

Think it would have to be approved by the NBEF national office before its used...but would be a welcome addition to my way of thinking.

There was a book I bought many copies of from 3 Rivers and gave it to my relatives children. Had a painting of a little deer on the cover - cannot remember the name off hand...but it was a great intro to hunting for little kids..and I remember that book found its way into school libraries all over the country...I will try to find the name of it for you..maybe we can get the publisher of that book to keep us from reinventing the wheel on how to be successful at getting into schools?

Gene,

Contact SCI and ask them if they would give you contact info for a fellow called Bob Easterbrook from Detoit. Bob has a Foundation that has been paying for and providing hunting and conservation programs to high schools all across the US. It has been a huge sucess and he may beable to use your program or have some good input from him. If you have any trouble finding Bob, get a hold of me and I'll get you in touch with him somehow.

My first thought was something like "Heck, I'd buy a couple for the local elementary, middle and high school in my neighborhood and donate them if I knew they get shown."

That was closely followed by "They'll never get played with the liberal 'anti hunting agenda' so common in public education."

Still, it's a thought.  Sort of a grass roots effort.  If everybody bought just one and donated it to the local school they would get around awfully quick.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

These sort of ideas are helping us get direction. Keep them coming. Schools are just one avenue. We would also like to see them get to scout troops, libraries, etc. This newest final product with added messages will move many people and expose them to the wide array of emotions hunters experience. Our goal is to reach a wider and younger audience with a more targeted message using the film's best images. Thanks.

You might want to check with the discovery channel. I know they do series that are made to be played in school and even have lesson plans with them. Maybe they might be able to do one incorporating your video. I can't wait to see it and show it to my girlfriend. As much as I love the original, she can't sit still long enough for it. But then again maybe it's because I watch it a couple times a month.  :)

Also are there still plans in the works for a second  primal dreams or was this it? Thanks

Gene you might send a demo copy to each of the different game departments in all 50 states. if they like them they might be able to market them to the instructors, especially if you are offering them at a reduced rate.

if you can get a single copy out to some of these organizations they will most likely want more to spread the word and get the message out.

I'm sure each state's bowhunting organization would be interested in helping. I'm a life member of MS Bowhunter Association and would love to do whatever you need to help. The video sounds like a great idea, by the way.

Many States have Hunter Ed classes. Contacting the State Game Comissions could be a help also. As well as the States Bow Hunters Groups who also have Bow Hunter Ed classes.

Mark Baker

I'd second the state orgs, Gene.  I know the MT Bowhunters Assoc. is always looking for do-good/feel-good projects and they already send newsletters out to most of the targets you are trying to reach.....just get the idea to Peter I., and he can take it to the board.

You might also contact P & Y club, and they could steer it the right direction.
