Movingui wood
« on: October 03, 2007, 11:55:00 AM »
Does anyone know what Movingui wood is? I have a longbow with limb lams on it and wanted to know more about it. Is it a "Rosewood"? Is it costly? Is it good for lams?
Thanks
Ron

Movingui Wood
Scientific Name: Distemonanthus benthamianus
Origin: West Africa
Appearance: The sapwood of movingui is white to straw colored, while the heartwood is golden yellow to orangish brown. The species has a slightly interlocked ribbon-featured grain and is medium to fine in texture.
Properties: Movingui is moderately resistant to termites and dries with very little degrade. As a wood flooring option movingui is a good choice for its hardness.
Hardness: 1230 as compared to: Red oak- 1260 & N maple- 1450 (Janka chart)
Workability: Movingui is relatively easy to cut. The wood has only a slight tendency to split under nailing, so pre-boring is suggested. Glue holds well with movingui flooring. This species is reported to take a good stain and polish.
Principal Uses: Some of movingui's uses include wood flooring, ceilings, furniture, veneers, and stair works.
