I made my wife a deal...
« on: January 22, 2015, 05:29:00 AM »
I finally paired down my list of bows to what I thought was all the bows I would ever want or need, or so I thought. Then yesterday, I looked through the classifieds. I found a beautiful Slammer 68" 45@28. Well, I've never shot a 68" longbow and the price was right, so I spoke to my wife about purchasing the bow. In a moment of weakness, I told my my beloved that I would sell a bow to fund the purchase of this bow. Now I'm trying to decide which bow to let go. Dang it, man! This trad bow addiction is powerful strong!     :banghead:

Tim,

You're absolutely right! I was in tears, laughing while I read your post! Perhaps if I agree to a shopping trip for her, she will agree to allow me to keep all the bows in the stable. I better begin working on my negotiation strategy!

I have the bows sent to my friends address, then just smuggle it into the house, she can't tell one from the other anyway, and she lost count awhile ago, then if caught, I just say I'm trying it out. No different than she with her shoes, or bags, clothes, etc.

P.S. They never forget anything !

Dennis, that is exactly what I do but Tonya hardly ever knows what I have. If I have a bunch of money in the farm account, she starts to work on me about her wants,, her wants consist of vacation, cruises, furniture, etc.

My wife does the same thing however, with horses there is never extra money in the farm account.

I try to rationalize with her about how I can sell the bow after a few years and get most of the money back where her vacations are one and done deals.

She tried to explain to me that a horse was a good investment because the initial purchase price was good. I cannot figure that one out yet.

Longbow, you are getting a sweet bow and Jeff is top notch. Enjoy looking for a  bow to sell.
Relax,

Hmmm. You do not need to tell your wife those kind of things. Buy with cash, and when she sees it tell her you are borrowing it from a buddy. If she gets too suspicious you could keep it at said buddy's house for a day or 2.

Lots of good tips on wife managment here, I've used many of those tricks on my other love (guitars).

I never heard of Stewart bows before and I checked his website and he's located about 15 miles from me. His prices are a tad high for me, but I'd love to buy from a local fella.  Any opinions on his bows? Worth the extra money?

You guys crack me up...!

   Wife management????...who are you kidding..!

Fortunately my wife has her own hobby addiction Sewing/Quilting, with the cost of one of her machines being well more than 2 or three bows I'm good for now.

She never questions my buying, selling, trading, I am lucky..!

What about a wife that wants every bow they see. My wife has more bows than me and more than she will ever shoot now. I am currently building her one more. Happy wife, happy life.

I NEVER say anything when my wife goes to the mall, and she never says anything when a new bow shows up!

Charlie,

I explained to my wife that my bows don't need shots, hay or grain, don't get sick, don't need a farrier-like her horses.  Not a pretty sight, but, after an icy stare and a gruff "HMPH", I don't get any more complaints about bows.

Hey shefflar,

Doesn't your mom know that the student loan bubble is going to burst, and all are going to be forgiven ?

If only that were the case. There may be some forgiveness in the future, but I feel it won't be substantial.

I've been out of school for one year and already have mine paid off though, perks of living at home and getting a good job before I graduated. Most my age wish they had my luck unfortunately.
