I have a bow that my uncle built me when I was a kid.  He never got "big" building them, just built them for people he knew and didn't charge anything above the cost of material.

Well, he liked to build "D" shaped bows and I managed to keep up with my over the years.  It is, still to this day, the QUIETEST and LEAST HAND SHOCK bow I have ever shot, period.

The only complaint about it is it is as slow as anything I have ever shot. lol.  Is there any design/bow out there that is comparable to the "D" style bow as far as being quiet and shock-less?

I wish I lived in an area with more trad shooters so I could test more bows..

The quietest bow that I have ever shot is one of my 1960 Kodiaks...quiet is far more about the string than it is about the bow...that bow with a B50 string is actually quite loud

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Stringfollow, misty dawn by jd berry.
Setback, would be a super d by mr toelke (freaky quiet)
R/d would go to my shafer silvertip
Recurve is lone wolf kayapo by mr. John Maus
All are, extremely quiet and no hand shock and fast enough to have killed me some does.

I had a Mahaska longbow 66" 46# @ 28", just 2 small wool puffs on the string. With 525 gr cedar arrow it was almost silent.

I have a  Big River Longbow that people hear the arrow whizzing and have to look to see if I have shot.

My little brother's hickory selfbow 15 years ago, maybe 50 inches log and roughly 30 lbs @ 24. Haha.

In general, a bow tuned to the nth degree with a heavy arrow and a properly matched string.

Specifically...a "Hill style" a buddy of mine made years ago.  The only bow that style I've ever shot that didn't rattle my teeth.  Slower than 3rd Class Mail, but quiet as a mouse fart.

Of my own bows, my selfbows are probably quietest.  The BBO I have that Eric Krewson made is fast and very quiet.

My Howard Hill Archery string follow Big 5.

Next is a coin toss with either my Dave Johnson ASL or my 7 Lakes Archery Carolina Night ASL. The DJ is backset. I also have a Northern Mist Shelton that's at the head of the pack also.

All of my quietest bows are of the Hill style. Many of my other bows are quiet also, but the ASL seems to be the best design for quiet. I think a true selfbow would likely be an even better design for quietness as Brock mentioned.

It's not a longbow, but the quietest bow I've ever shot was a Fox Breed I used to own. Dead silent with one set of cat whiskers. It was also the fastest bow I have ever shot. Only sold it because it was getting to heavy for my arthritis. Still regret selling it.

Absolute quietest ever was a 40# osage self bow that TGer 'burnt' built for me a while back.  That bow was absurdly quiet.  Like literally all you heard was the string slip off your glove and the arrow swish.

Selfbow for sure. Hands down the quietest you'll find.

A '59 Grizzly that I refinished. It now belongs to a member of the Bear Archery team that mans the booth at archery events.

The second quietest is a Hill Country Bobcat with static recurve limbs. Very fast too.

I would say my Predators are the quietest. I shoot a lot of Bears, they are not noisy by any means, but none are as quiet as Ron's Predator.
