That is what I thought right away also.  I  maybe wrong but I think I have seen that somewhere before, a long time ago.

Probably a lot of younger guys haven't heard of Jim Dougherty, but us graybeards remember him from his writings in the 60s and 70s. And yes, that looks like him.

:clapper:   yes.  I was worried no one would recognize him.  I have been working on this painting for a month.  It's my version of his Trails End story from November 2001 titled Fred's Bow.  He' s one of my favorite writers, and a great asset to the bowhunting community.

Yep, the hat & recurve were dead giveaways.

Nice work!

I am color blind but it looks like you even got his signature grey aluminum arrow shaft. I remember shooting them before I went to all wood arrows.

Great job! Impressive work.

Centaur, you're right - no clue who Jim Dougherty is. I figured I'd leave this question to the older gentleman here to figure out  :D

great piece, I like it.  Had me thinking of Thomas Aquinas Daly a bit.

BTW I have only been shooting trad for 15 years (wow, that went by fast!) and I recognize the name and a few writings of Mr. Dougherty. Didn't Easton run a signature line of birch bark looking aluminums for a few years before the SuperSlam line?

Cool painting......I remember reading stories about him hunting on Catalina Island for feral sheep and goats.......good stuff back in the day! I guess I may be dating myself......lol!

He was my idol when I first started bowhunting in 1969. Read every magazine that featured Jim. Had the privilege of bowhunting Antelope with Jim in 1981 for a week. Super guy....

Does anyone know how he's doing these days?  The most current thing I could find was over a year ago, and he was battling four different cancers.

It was the hat and the vest that gave it away for me. Loved his articles in the 70s. They're what lead me in this direction!!

Don't remember him as being left handed, but that's just me. He just about had an article in every bow-hunting magazine you would pick up.
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
