How do you setup when.....

you receive a new/new to you bow? Do you just slap a sting on it and go shoot, then tune it? Or, set the bow completely up, tune and adjust after you've shot it that way?

I am setting up a new to me DAS/Dalaa riser and will have everything for it before the limbs get here!   :biglaugh:  Already have a stab on the front, shorty plunger and Super 300 rest on it. String from Allen (tenringstrings) will be here probably today. Already have string silencer, nock, bow quiver and arrows to use on it. Seems I'm going backwards to me but, was wondering if anyone else does it like this?

I'm close...I have ilf limbs and string and arrows and rest and a riser in the mail...let's just call it being prepared lol

In the past two weeks I have bought 3 ilf riser and sold 1
Bought 13" vpa, 15" morrison xd and a 17" xd also got a set of limbs. But I also have plenty laying around and switched some from other risers.
I sold a titan III

I have a new to me pinnacle 2 coming...if I like this ilf thing im really thinking about a pair of kirks ss limbs

Chris, you've been busy! Which riser length do you prefer?

Fastltz, Kirks limbs look to be real nice but, a little out of my price range. Let us know how you like the Pinnacle.

I found I couldn't control the shorter riser very well. My shots could never get grouped at even 10yds. I know but, didn't plan for that.   :D

I'm really enjoying the 13" and 15" risers now. For some reason I like the smaller sight window. We have 6 days left in our season I'm really hoping I can get one close enough for a shot with one of the new bows

I do quite a bit of tuning with a variety of bows and BCY-X strings and I still get fooled on arrow spine sometimes...I know Allen uses Brownell string material and if you are using one of his Rhino strings and have not previously done so you might be surprised to see how stiff an arrow you might need to tune, even with all of the adjustments you have with that setup

Yep I ran into the same problems. I had a few bows tuned with a 16 strand D97 string and got a new string and my arrows were weak. So now I just stick with the D97. I'm really not worried about a few extra FPS over having to buy more arrows

The good news is that an adjustable metal riser with a flipper/plunger is about the easiest combination to tune there is (which is why that is the basic setup the FITA shooters use)...if you take a look at the bows I shoot the Hoyt Desperado is the one that fits in that category...I have yet to get really serious about fine tuning that bow since I am still have to go pick up the shorty plunger I ordered but even with a very simple plunger that bow will shoot a variety of arrows quite nicely

Have you guys got specs on that shorty plunger you are talking about?  I've got a couple new ILF rigs i'm setting up in the near future that have the risers cut far enough past center to use a plunger.
I want a good set up i can use vanes on this year without clearance issues.
