Pourtsmouth Virginia in November
« on: January 27, 2015, 09:37:00 AM »
I will be visiting my daughter in November 2015. Would like to find a place to hunt a couple of days while I am there and maybe kill a deer for her freezer. Will be there from 4-22 November. Any of the Virginia folks have any ideas? Drop me a pM.

Thanks,

Danny

I use to live out that way when I was in the Navy, public land is horrible, almost guaranteed to see 5 times as many hunters then deer if you even see a deer. Hopefully you can find someone with some land, Best of luck

Danny, I'm several hours away. You are always welcome here, but I'm sure there are some guys closer that can hook you up.

Good luck!

Yeah, I was stationed at Dam Neck back in the early 80s and hunted on base a few times, never saw a deer close enough to shoot at, ventured to a friends place in the Blueridge but never any luck there either. Hopefully someone close will be able to help me out. Just putting out feelers to see if I can come up with something, plenty of time. Would not mind a 3 hour drive or so.

Haven't logged in in a long time although I lurk.....waterfowl season.  Drop me a pm.  I'm probably about 2 hours away in lower Delaware.  I think I may have a secluded spot or two.  See if anyone closer responds first.

One of my new year thoughts is to meet and spend more time with others of like interest.

I'm from that neck of the woods but haven't hunted there in years. Sounds as though "kbetts" offer will be hard to beat. Mighty nice of him to chime in; Course that is the TradGang way.    :clapper:

I hunt in Wakefield Va, there is a huge chunk of public land called Big Woods WMA. 4500 acres, it gets some pressure but not too much. I can't bring guest to my club for bowhunting, wish I could, but this public used to belong to my club. So we have land around it now. Plenty of deer. Good bucks as well. It would be about an hr drive from there. Look it up on google or VA Game and Fish.

Big Woods is the closest good place you'll be able to get for public land.  There's also the Great Dismal Swamp, but it's tough to get around in there.  The rules are kind of funky, but it's possible to get deer out of there.  Dam Neck won't let you hunt unless you have a military ID and shoot a class.

Doeslayer (AKA Vic) should be able to hook you up with something.  Vic and I used to hunt behind my neighborhood in Suffolk, but after the secret got out, it's been inundated with folks back there.

Vic and I should be coming back from our MO mecca right around the time you'll be getting here.
