heat shrink tube

Has anyone ever used heat shrink tube for string nocks? I have been tying on my nocks for a while as brass nocks really tear my face up, just thinking out side of the box.

1, have you tried them?

2, do you think it would work?

I'm guessing you want to use the heat shrink because it might be faster and last longer? I'm not sure you would ever be able to adjust it by screwing it up or down if you change fletching, or rest material.

Personally, I like being able to cut off the nock point and tie a new one on whenever I'm feeling bored.

Im with bladepeek. I like using tie on nocks. I would be afraid you may cut your serving if yiu need to remove  the heat shrink tubing.

Have used them since the 60's.You have to be VERY carefull heating them and once there on::: THERE ON TO STAY::: Colt used to sell them for nocks in packages of 4

I'm looking into them as a way to not rip my face up, sometimes even with tied on nocks they will rip my lip/nose.

good point about them not being adjustable. something to chew on...

Duker, do you use a heat gun to shink them or a hair dryer or what?

Sam:::I shrink them using a 75watt bulb from a lamp.The shrink nocks I use are made for nocking points so do not know how the shrink wraps you buy at the hardware will work.

I've used the hardware versions, but only can find black.  Once I find my sweet spot, I cut and slip on two pieces about 1/4 inch long.  I just used a candle, moving it over quickly a few times until it sealed.  

Cutting them off with a razor was not an issue if you are careful.  

I just found the black nocks on black string to be unfriendly for me in low light with my failing eyes.

For the past few years, I have just been using floss to tie on my nock points.

You may try dental tape ( wider than floss ) to tie on your nocking point. No rough edges like noksets.

Hmmmmm......I sell wire, cable, and heat shrink for a living. This has got me thinking....some of the higher tech heat shrink with a meltable mastic on the inside would be VERY secure, very abrasion resistant...a 3 foot stick from your local electrical distributor would last you a lifetime, cost almost nothing.

If you are tearing up your face with the string you may want to think about opening up your stance a bit, or adjusting your anchor... With proper alignment that string shouldn't be slapping your face..... Then again.... i've seen pros that put tape on their nose....    

I just use 8125 string and tie on my nocks. Dental floss works fine too.

I went away from the brass knocking points several years ago because of string damage. Have used dental floss tie on nocks since that time with great results. After tying on the nock, I melt it with a small, household grill torch. Its durable, never any string damage, and easily replaced.

Heat shrink nocks were commonly sold in the 60's. Each nock was about 1/4" long. I still have a set of two in the plastic from a local archery shop. I remember them working very well.

Never tried shrink tube, use a nail knot also called whip knot, lays flat and smooth without sharp edges to tear you up,

I coach our local school's NASP program, which uses Genesis bows exclusively.  First thing I do is remove the heat-shrink nock point that comes on them, because it can get loose and move with no warning.

Never used shrink tubing for a knock point but really like the idea. I don't like the brass nocks and have had tied on knocks move. Even with putting super glue on them they will eventually screw themselves up or down the string. I may try putting a tiny peice on shrink tubing above and below the tie on nocks.
I agree the tubing with the sealant inside would never move.
That could be good or bad.

This is intriguing.  What size tubing do you use for nocks?  I see 1/8 out there. But there is semi-rigid or rigid. If I try it, I would try the kind that has adhesive in it.

well i got a variety pack from radio shack and put a 1/4" piece on a old junk string and have a few thoughts so far.

1, might need 2 pieces per nock as

2, i think this is going to work awesome

3, removing it is possible but you must be careful not to cut your serving, best if you know for sure where your nocking point needs to be and only do it once.

Ive used it but I use a 1 inch piece above and below to keep them from sliping...... works pretty good for me.......
