Something new by Maddog
« on: January 27, 2015, 07:18:00 PM »
With more and more requests for a take down bow, I designed this forward riser one this year.  I call it the backpacker.  This bow will be available with longbow limbs up to 64" long, and recurve limbs.  I haven't made recurve limbs for this riser yet but I'm considering making them available in 56", 58", and 60".  The price will start at $475.

The prototype that I have pictured here is 60" long, 50# @ 28", with red elm cores, bubinga riser and wedges.  I tested it with a 7 1/4" brace ht.

I plan to make a few aesthetic changes in the future, with thinner wedges and a more graceful transition from the back of the riser to the limbs.

Here's some pics of the prototype

Thanks everyone, like any of the new designs I dream up, it needs a few details ironed out, but for the most part I'm happy with the outcome.  I'd never shot a forward handled bow before so I wasn't sure what to expect.  I still need to make some recurve limbs for it and try them out.  It seems very balanced having all the mass forward, and very easy to shoot consistently.
