Guys,
As I said in my story I killed this bull on the first evening. So what to do w/ the rest of the week?.
2 days later we where heading up the jeep trail when I saw a very large muledeer buck bedded 70yrds off the trail. We stopped and thru the bino's on him and other mulies started to get up.11 bucks w/ at least 4 in the 160'' to 180'' range slip out.Got my wheels turning. As we came out that evening in the same area we stopped to look at a forkhorn mulie and noticed this very odd and very large buck in the back ground. As I veiwed him some limbs started to appear in my bino's.They grew larger w/ every stept and behold stood a monster 6x6 buck that would push 200''.The next afternoon I went to town and a mulie tag.
That evening I began to search for the weak link in their travels.I came apon a low spot in the fence that had promising sign.Quickly made a blind and would return in the morning.
Day break brought no mulies but about 7:30 3 bucks appeared from a unknown drainage and proceeded in my direction. My bino's revealed 2 160'' 4x4's and a fork horn.25 mins. later one of the 4x4's and the fork were traveling on course to my ambush. As luck would have it the took the high trail and passed at a iffy 40+yrds.
Resting back at camp.I was awaken by calls your buck is bedded off the jeep trail.I grabbed my bow and off me and Joe went to investagate. There they are,so a game plan was layed down. With the agreement of 45mins. before Joe was to move his scent line into the direction of the deer.I got out of sight of the deer and attempted my approach. With my bino's I located Oddball's horns and then the other 2.I put 2 trees in the veiw of Oddball and the doe and snuck in.At 25yrds I ran out of hiding spots and checked my watch.2 mins. before Joe starts his move.I peer up at this huge bedded buck and figured heck I'll shoot him in his bed.As I reached for a arro and the deer jumped up and ran right at me.At 2yrds Oddball caught me franticly trying to nock an arro to shoot the big boy now standing 7yrds broadside looking the other way.Yes the gigg was up and I never got a shot.
Oh yah,
Joe left 10mins. early
