Black Widow MA2 with no serial number??
« on: February 14, 2015, 03:43:00 PM »
There is a guy here locally is selling a Black Widow MA2.  I went and checked it out and saw an immediate red flag(in my opinion).

I have never known of a BW bow that didn't have a serial number.  I took all the pictures I could hoping you guys could share some light on this subject.

Before anyone answers "call black widow", its saturday, they're closed.

notice how there isn't a serial number or a date in which it was built!

anyone ever seen anything like this?
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. Jeremiah 17:7

"There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death."  Proverbs 14:12

What's the 95-504 ?? looks to be an older model. They didn't mark the limbs back then. Do the limbs have 95-504 stamped on them ??

Brian, you just found it in the last picture. The top number is the year it was built and the bottom number is the number of that model bow that was made in that year. There should be matching numbers on the flat ends of the limb butts. I've owned a couple of the old MA's. That one sure looks to be in nice shape.

You think so?

I didn't see the numbers on the other end of the riser.

Anyone know a round about value of it?

95504 is the serial number. What's he asking for it?

Heavy, stable, and accurate.  I love those old MA's, and DennyK is in the park for price.

If those are the original limbs it will also be stamped on the limb butt.

504th bow built in 1995. I'm not sure when they started putting the actual serial number on the limb writing.

Those older MA's are smoother quieter and lighter than the new PMA's with the Phenolic in the risers and limb butts.

I just sold a "94" model for $550 if that helps.

That does help.

What type of shape was your 95 in? Any nicks in it?

I had one of them old ones......should have never sold it! Bought it at the Wittingham shoot for $375 in 2007. Graet bows.

I had a MA from the mid 80's that was stamped the same way.
With no owners name on limbs I would say it was a bow bought at the BW facility or from them while they were on the road. Of course if you ask they won't put a name on the bow.
That riser looks to be in great shape. Nicks should not be a big deal unless they are deep. BW said to use I dab of Super glue to keep out moisture.
I had mine refinished, the epoxy finish they used then yellowed and I had some nicks as well. When I got the riser back it looked brand new! Could not even see where nicks where.

I have an MA11 early 90s  and what's been said about those numbers are correct. And the limbs on the new ones are wider, don't know why they changed them. Great bow and great guys to deal with.

My favorite BW bow ... the quietest of any BW I have owned too !! Built to last and great shooters. I think mine was a 93 MAII ... 60" 55#, just got a bit too heavy for me to pull while sitting in a tree or blind ... great bows

Also found out that the limbs do not have any markings on them. Does that imply they are not the originals?

Does that affect value at all?

They are not collectors bows so the value is in the condition of the bow not the serial numbers.

Nice Widow! That one should have Maple Actionwood limbs and narrow limb tips.  If the limbs fit the riser perfectly then they are likely the originals, I believe limbs were shaped to the riser back then. 1995,it was made before CNC limb/riser fitting. I have had both CNC and pre CNC BW bows.
