tundra boots
« on: February 18, 2015, 08:59:00 PM »
A group of us did a trip to Alaska last year and a couple of us had Cabella's Tundra Boots. They worked well. Now I have a buddy headed to Canada for moose this fall and told him about those boots and they're not to be found (too bad his feet are 2 sizes bigger than mine). They were a lace up muck boot with a roll up/ down coated 500 denier (+/-) nylon hip wader. perfect for the wet tundra in the Brooks Range.
Any of you know of another source for those or if they are being sold under another name somewhere else?

Mike Mitten was wearing something similar to that last year. Check with him.

I used the Tundra boots on my last moose hunt in Sept. I covered the uppers in Stealth Wrap to make them wisper quiet and still very light . I got mine from Cabelas, but have not seen them on the site. I would give them a call and see what they say about supply. Mike

No, they are the Tundra boots I got from Cabela's, only I wrapped them in Stealth. Very quiet now. I think you have to inquire at Cabelas by phone. Mike

My buddy and I went to Alaska moose hunting about ten years ago. He is a big time coon hunter and he got me a pair of lacrosse rubber boats at a coon hunters show. They have this water proof top swen on them, very rugged for briars and such. They come up to your crouch just like hip waders. Never got wet in them. They roll down and have a snap to secure them. They worked great.

I wanted to buy a pair and checked with Cabelas last month and they said they are no longer handling them. I have searched high and low and have yet to find another place to buy them.

If someone knows or finds out where I can get them, please let me know. I have a Moose hunt in the planning stages and will need these or something like them.

You might want to check out something like these Glacier socks.

It-M-Grow, those may work too, but the ones I used were from stealthoutdoors.com site.  Mike

There's a problem with glacier socks.   If you're not wearing something with a removable liner, your boots are wet.

OR

you carry a second set of flip flops (neoprene dive shoes), which equals more weight.  They work in a pinch and keep your feet and leathers dry!

If you're dead set on having hippers.  Dumb idea but why not just buy neoprene stocking feet style and a QUALITY pair of wading boots?   They've done well for me!   If you want to keep the hippers down, use a pair of gators, which I'd recommend regardless to keep brush from potentially poking any holes in the hippers.
