My first longbow!!!
« on: February 22, 2015, 12:18:00 PM »
Having been restricted to only shooting a crossbow for years I was very happy to be able to start shooting a recurve again last fall. While I didn't hunt with it I shot it almost daily and really enjoyed it. This year I went down to the Kalamazoo traditional archery expo and I got to try out a bunch of different bows and talk to every custom bowyer that was there. I had a blast and learned a lot of things too. The show really blew my mind as to the skills the bowyers all have to make such beautiful pieces of art and I really liked several of them. The one that stuck out the most to me because of how well it felt in my hand and how well I shot it was a Little Crow Merlin longbow that was 60" long and 52# @ 28" and has a cocobolo riser with osage orange limbs with a bamboo core .These were also the exact specs I was looking for. My shooting got better the very first time I went to the range and has continued to improve every time since. This bow is just so much fun to shoot and I can't wait to hunt with it this coming year!!!! Thank you again Lee!! I love my new bow!!
Its very smooth to draw and whisper quiet and very fast!

These pictures don't do the bow justice.

Congrats on your new bow, she's a beauty.         In my opinion, there's nothing like shooting a longbow.

That bow is a great example of how little difference there can be between a bow called a recurve and a bow called a longbow...the bottom line is we only touch the bow at the grip when shooting and we pay no attention to the limb tips, only how they affect the force draw curve

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Great looking bow...thought it was a Fedora when I seen the thumb ledge. Good luck with it.

Very sharp looking bow!
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

If you can brave the roads to Kalamazoo in Feb, you could make it to the Michigan Longbow Association Spring Shoot in Fenton in May!

$20 bucks to join the org and that gets you into the member-only shoot for 3 days of camping and all you can shoot 3D plus an American Round if you are up for it. We've got members from all over the US and several other countries (including some diehard members in Ontario.)

I'm certainly not pushing anything, but I thought you should know we're here in case you want to bring that bow out to play this spring!
