Tell me about Thunderhorn Mfg

I've been intrigued by the Thunderhorn 3 piece takedown and the heart stopper bows for a while now. I would like to hear your thoughts on their bows. I think they're stunning and the stippled grips are awesome. It seems to me that they only produce a limited number of bows annually. Is that correct? The people who buy them must love them because you don't see many of them in the classifieds.

I own a three piece. Quite possibly the last "custom" one Duane made. He told me he was done with custom orders and will occasionally make a "stock" bow now and again. He still makes quivers and leather goods. He also told me the exotic woods were getting to him health wise as they do to many bowyers.
I love mine. Workmanship some of the best I have seen. Grip fits me well. Occasionally they come up for sale but recently it seems to be the same bows just getting passed around.
Worth a call to him but a friend tried to order a bow from him recently and was turned away.

Great Bows, Bowyer, and LeatherSmith, all in one. Attention to detail/fit/finish.
Duane is no longer building customs, just on a limited basis, spoke to him last week, and building will be minimal. Hard to find these bows used anymore, for these reasons. Great quivers also.

I love my Coupstick, and Duane is a good guy to deal with.

I own two 3pc Thunderhorns. They are really nice longbows. You will hear over and over comments about Duane's workmanship. I echo those words. I also love his grips!!
As far as I know Duane will occasionally build a bow to his own liking/specs. I actually bought one of these builds last year
Here is a pic of mine. It was hard to capture the lighting for a light and dark riser wood. This was the best I could do.
Here is a lighter photo

I really don't think he's building bows anymore.

Sorry, I don't know too much about the Duane personally but do know he is a very talented man. His bows are a joy to shoot and look at. I hope you are able to find one Dennis.

My Thunderhorn is my go to bow and my favorite take down longbow hands down. I would never hesitate to buy a stock bow from Dwayne

I've got a one-piece Coupstick as a backup hunting bow and at one time owned a one-piece Heartstopper. I've not tried a three-piece or stippled grip version but can say that a rubber Shurgrip works well in both warm weather (when hands are sweaty) and cold/snow.
Thunderhorns are good bows and the grip design is outstanding. Too bad he stopped making them.
