Making wooden arrows
« on: February 23, 2015, 10:22:00 PM »
A really dumb question, I'm going to get some cedar arrow shafts to make my own wooden arrows. Just wondering is it best to use 5 inch feathers on the wooden arrows or can you use 4 inch feathers? Thanks in advance!

If the arrows are straight and well tuned and used for targets, 4" is fine. If not, or if they are going to be used with broadheads, then 5". The advantage of 4" is flatter trajectory; the advantage of 5" is more stability.

X2 on the 5" fletch.

Cedar is good, but Douglas Fir from Surewood Shafts is much better, IMO.

If you are using a 4 fletch, 4 inch will work.

I use 5" even for 4 fletch...I'll take stability in hunting situations over whatever drag I'd save with 4" fletch, any day of the week...
Your Chicken from McDonald's, Tyson Foods, or Perdue Farms spent most of it's life stuffed in a cage with three or four others, occupying a space about the size of a book page...None for me, thanks...
