Anyone Familiear with Wing Thunderbird Recurve

I recently acquired a bow that I haven't seen before. It's a Wing Thunderbird It has a large handle and a pretty hefty riser. Just wondered if anyone else has seen one and might be familiar with them?

Hmmm.  Never heard of a Wing Thunderhorn.  Wing did make a Thunderbird.  Nice bow, though a bit chunky in the riser for my tastes.

Orion, you are right. It is a Thunderbird. I must have been in a hurry last night after shooting with the guys. You are right about it being chunky in the riser. If I were going to shoot it I'd have to work on the handle a lot.

I am a fan of the Thunderbird just the way it is...very stable and tough as nails.

Is it the one with phenolic riser?

I have a Bob Lee Falcon  its a 1 pc bow  i believe its similar to the thunderbird. Nice bow  light in hand and quick

2fletch, what are the vital numbers on your T-bird?

I have one too. Nice bows. They were to top of line for Wing in my book. Mine is 60#@28" and really shoots good.

Killed a few animals in Tennessee back in the mid to late 60's with a 52" and 60# @28"  Wing Thunderbird.  Ordered it new through Mahoney's in Johnson City.  It was a brand new model that Bob Lee put out when I ordered it.  Had it for 30 years or so and traded it.  That was a trade that I regret.

This bow is 62" in length and 46# draw weight. It's in good shooting condition. Looks like someone filed on the handle a little bit to change the grip. I haven't shot it yet since it didn't have a string, but probably won't keep it. Might put it on the Classified section later.

Thanks for the info. I was not familiar with it. The serial # looks like IY-1589, and it has a phenolic riser.

Don, I have to drive through Mebane to pick my youngest up at State next weekend...I can swing by so you can throw that old piece of junk in the trunk of my car and I'll haul it to the landfill...or not.

I currently have 3 Thunderbirds, a #50, #53 and a #56 (scales #61) and they a top notch performers and shoot extremely flat. One of the best bows I've owned. The grips for my size hand are outstanding and they are fast, quiet and dead in the hand on release. Bob Lee new what he was doing when he made them.

Wing Thunderbird was my first real hunting bow. I had a lefty 54# @28". Killed my first deer with it and a few more.

Love the Tbird. Great grip, dead in the hand, very quiet, and just a great design.  Rates at the top for me in a older bow. I have a 52",  46# all phenolic one.

I agree with all the positive comments previously posted.  I have a 62" T-bird that is 35#@28 and it throws an arrow more like a 45# bow does.  Very stable and shooting friendly bow.

The Wing "Thunderbird" was the first bow I ever purchased. 62" long, 45@28. Good looks and a great shooter. That was in 1970/71. Wish I still had it, but it delaminated when I went to string her up in 1976/77 after 5 years of improper storage. The "Thunderbird" had a large, comfortable grip which led me to purchase a Bob Lee 'Signature" TD model some years later. Hard to beat the Bob Lee bows for comfort and shoot-ability.

It seems like everyone who has owned a Thunderbird has liked them. I wish that this one was about 40#. That's my current comfortable  shooting weight.

This was a bow I wanted when I was a teen. Mr. wiggs box store had one for $75 I recall. I couldn't afford it.
