light bows --

Got up in a tree about 15 yards from a well used trail. Was lucky in my choice when this compact boar came through.. He was angling sharply away when I took the shot. Didn't have a lot of option as it happened pretty fast. I knew he was in the bag when I saw the arrow strike home.
I had been shooting an old friend the last few days, a Mohawk, it's 47@28 or 51 or so at my draw length. As I took the shot I was wishing for one of my 60 pounders. He was hard to find since there was no exit hole. He made a cane thicket about 100 yard run in all.. BTW, I was aiming 3-4" farther forward..

You da man Pat!
Perfect arrow flight and a sharp broadhead have become the most important factors for hunting North American game with the more experience and knowledge I obtain about bowhunting.

If there was ever a post that lends itself to a discussion of penetration, this is certainly one.
How about some details on that arrow setup, Pat?

Ron, the arrow is a 30.5" Gold Tip 35/55, I used an aluminum broadhead adapter and a 160 grain Stos broadhead..
I weighed the arrow a week ago but forget exactly what it weighed, but it was right at 500 grains..

Pat, you just did a great deal to restore my confidence. That's almost exactly what I have set up except for Zwickeys instead of the Stos.
That was an excellent picture with the full length arrow laid on top of the pig to show the actual path and depth of penetration.
Nice shot and nice pig.

That is a nice looking pig Pat. It looks like the bow, the arrow and most importantly the archer all did what they were supposed to do!

Nice Shooting!! As long as you can put the Arrow where it Needs to be, a 45 pound bow is just about all you will ever need! Just my $.02.

Excellent demonstration with the arrow laying on top of the animal.
Nice looking hog, no wonder you took the shot. Well done.
