Only one bow?? is that possible? I 'm building one for a customer right now that is 52 lb at 28 in, 60 in hybrid, double carbon Macassar and myrtle riser that would fit me perfect. I'm really considering a ditto for myself.
I have this problem though. Bows are not like women. When I saw my wife she was the one. Marcy  has lasted and been the one for over 50 years.

I have never owned a bow that I could settle on like that and never want another one. LOL. I have probably 40 or 50 bows right now and I would have a real hard time picking (The One)Right now it would be a hybrid though and not a curve. Simple reason is they are just as fast, quieter, and can be strung push and pull. Simplicity. Simplicity. is definitely a necessary trait of the One,.

God bless, Steve.

I have two bows that could fit into my one bow category. One would be a Howard Hill Wesley Special at 65# draw at 28". It would be 68" long with gloss black glass on back and belly over a bamboo core. The alternate choice would be a Howard Hill Cheetah at 55# in a 68" bow. It, too, would have a bamboo core. They would both have a slight dish grip.

By the way, these are exactly what I shoot now.

Another possible choice would be a Howard Hill Redman, one I aspire to own.

I actually prefer the "workhorse" look on a bow these days....I used to be all about wood combos but lately I prefer the simplicity.  My go to bow is a Widow PCH in "greenleaf", basically a green version of autumn oak.

Lots of responses. Most everyone leans toward being able to see the wood.

I have one camo bow.  It came that way.  I just can't bring myself to cover any of the wood on my others.
My camo bow is the ABS QN2.  I believe it is a "sleeper" when it comes to true workhorse bows.  Nobway I'd get rid of mine.

In the early 70's, everybody bought spray cans of flat paint marketed specifically to bowhunters and
covered up all the shiny zebrawood, buginga and shedua. Factory camo was an upcharge from Bear.  That's why Bear dumped the exotic woods in their best -selling hunting bows  and went with the impregnated maple and then made the impregnated maple green. Modern camo dip is almost as pretty as the exotic hardwoods. Honestly, I don't think animals notice anything but a reflection off a gloss finish, but it was a mental thing. I still shoot a few home-made spray can camo'd bows.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

Everyone tells me this is too pretty to hunt with.

nope, a bow is a weapon made to hunt.

It would be a 60" one piece recurve along the lines of a Super Kodiak, Bighorn or Deerslayer. Black or brown glass with indigenous woods. A simple hunting bow meant for the hunt......IJ

Let's see what day is it? Today it would be my Hoyt Excel riser in "blackout" with flat black limbs. If I would want to use one of my bows with gloss I would consider limb skins from Onestringer. NO snake skins, I hate them.

One of these days I will be having a talk with Ed Boyd about my fantasy bow. It will be a combination/variation of a couple of his designs. I hope it will come to fruition!

It would be an ILF with metal riser or wood take down or one piece recurve but one thing it wouldn't be would be dipped. Dipping looks horrible.

I did spray paint several bows in the 60s and 70s and they looked better than dipping.

My Blacktail.  I sent it back and had it re-finished with their new satin finish.  Maybe not quite as "pretty" if you are into high gloss, but I love the Blacktail with it for hunting.

Sixty six to 68 inch.  Flat or backset 1/2".

The two bows that I shoot most are spray painted.  One black and gray, the other green and gray.

I really don't think camo on the bow helps any. I've drawn on two elk and a mule deer that were staring directly at me and the bow didn't seem to bother them at all. That scenario will test you as to wheather or not you are overbowed. The draw has to be smooth and SLOW so the motion doesn't spook the critter. My next bow will be a 72 incher, RF DF longbow, at around 65 lbs. Satin finish. Wood combo is unimpotant.

Why spend big bucks for one of the "pretty" bows if you're going to paint or camo it. Seems rather senseless to me since there are so many excellent "non-pretty" ones out there at a much cheaper outlay. I have a Hummingbird Kingfisher TD in high gloss and no way am I going to paint or camo it. Took a couple of whitetails with it this year and "pretty" wasn't an issue. Nice buck Charles and interesting choice of bow. If you live in southern Oregon or get around here come by and have a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze a bit. We have a lot in common. Besides bowhunting I also carve and paint a bit. Once in a while I build a bow. Never have trapped but done a lot of coyote and cat hunting , calling over around Whitehorse and Denio, I made my living in the winter for over 10 years doing that and love that country.

God bless Steve
