I recently aquired a Checkmate attila 45#@28 56". And tried shooting the arrows I use for my other recurve which is also 45#@28 and I am having some erratic arrow flight. My arrows are cut to 28.5" and are a 500 spine. 145gr point and 75gr insert. Should I lengthen the arrow or move to a 600 spine? Also I shoot left and with some quick paper tuning the arrows seem to go with the point to right and feather left, which should mean too stiff, right?

That indication would be too stiff. Easy to check since you only have a 145 point on there, you could put a 175 or 200 gr point on. That's easier than messing with the insert. If that makes the condition better, it will confirm that you were too stiff. If you are still getting erratic flight, you may be getting some interference from the shelf.

That's about an inch shorter than I am running on my mid-40 lb bows with about the same weight up front (220 gr), so I would not be surprised if it needs a bit more weight or longer arrow, or 600 spine. I'm running 1535s at 30.5 with standard insert and 145gr points and they are pretty close for me.

You might also want to take a look at the brace height if it's fairly low.

The Attila is cut to center, but not past (normally).  If your other recurve is cut past center, you will need a weaker spine (or heavier point, or longer arrow) for the Attila.
