Michigan shed hunting extravaganza!

I know there has been endless debate and accusations about the Michigan deer herd and the MDNR, but I wanted to share this with you Michigan guys.
A friend of mine who lives in Charlevoix County went shed hunting last weekend in the Norwood area along Lake M.(five miles from where I grew up) and found this wall hanger six point. Great find Deano!
Hopefully this will give you Grand Traverse, Antrim, Charlevoix hunters some enthusiasm for the coming years.

Dang, although I have some "big" six points that show up on my place, I have never seen on THAT big.
Nice find

Yea , and not legal for the second tag . Has to have four points on one side .
Explain that .

I heard the DNR is lenient on restricted tag if it's an obvious mature whitetail.... Roll the dice on that one maybe lol

What a bruiser he was. Graps, that would be about enough to kill a fella.

I know longer live or hunt there, but damn Graps! What a quandary to be in if you already filled your first tag and that stud appeared.

That would be a conundrum wouldn't it. Nice find though. There are a few still around Michigan that makes a guys mouth drop. Keith do you have Whitetail in Alaska where your at? Just wondering. I went to Ontario just north of Sault Saint Marie Michigan a few years back and there were ZERO deer there. Wolves. rat'

We have no Whitetail here Ryan. But all the Islands in south central and south east have Sitka Blacktail deer and they are great to chase with a bow.
Having hunted both species extensively I will say they have less than half the wits of a whitetail. When John Deere came up with the slogan "Nothing runs like a deer". They weren't referring to blacktails. Blacktails are members of the mule deer family and run like they're on a pogo stick!
Watching an adult whitetail buck get after it was always amazing to see. Nothing like that here. Not even close! We just have more options and I like that.

The only downside to hunting Blacktails in Alaska is that you can then become the hunted with the Brownies, right???

That is a dandy 6 for sure but no buck is worth the risk to have my ability to hunt taken away (and potential fine) to shoot it. Would be interesting to hear from a credible person, DNR Officer, on how they would really handle it if someone choose to take the risk and shoot it...even with a really good story why they mistook it as an 8.

If you think a Michigan C.O is going to look the other way because you shot a nice buck that didn't meet the antler restriction you might want to think that one over again.
C.O.'s in Michigan rarely look the other way on anything.

A lot of that is we have a rampant poaching problem, crappy economy, and army agents who pride themselves in ticketing without using judgement. They dress like SWAT now. They used to be part of the community of outdoorsmen, no more.
