UGLY string trackers
« on: March 31, 2015, 06:45:00 AM »
I am a gigantic fan of string trackers and that is no secret. I have had them save the day on many animals over the last 25 years. There is really only one draw back to using one and it is that they are ugly as sin on a good looking bow. I have sat for years trying to think of a way to hide that ugly black shiny spool cover. Recently I spent some time over at friends house and we discussed trying to make a leather cover. Well, my leather making skills are not what you would call first rate. So I put the project off again.

Recently I saw a post on here where Chad Orde had made a really nice looking leather cover for his tracker that strapped on a long bow. Some of you may have seen it. A good design but I shoot a unit from my stabilizer insert.

Well I got with Chad on the phone and gave him my thoughts on a design that had been in my head for a long time and he also had great ideas along with mad leather working skills. He sent me this prototype and folks, he NAILED IT.
This design uses the spool cover and the front half can be removed to replace the spool. I think this will do a great job of protecting the spool from being crushed as well as maintaining the shape of the cover.

I LOVE the design and workmanship. I ordered two right away.
Finally my string tracker looks like it belongs.

Trust me folks, there is a ton of craftsmanship in this cover. Worth every penny.

Here is his contact info if you have an interest.

All of this string tracker love in the air made me have to go out and get one!!!

A friend ordered a couple custom strings and knowing that he did a lot of leather work, we struck up a deal.

I also read to where people like to have them above the arrow so we did some searching to find exactly what we wanted it to look like.  This was a proto type, but it turned out VERY WELL!!

There is still a little fine tuning to be done, but man, it does look great in my opinion.

I love how it is up out of the way, not effecting my sight picture at all.

Hmmmm.
I may have to give this another look. I just bought a new string tracker from the turkey hunting secret folks. However, most of my bows and the one I want to hunt with this year does't have an accessory bushing for this.

That high window attachment looks like it might be the ticket.

Chad does awesome work.  I actually got my first and second turkey last week using Chad's Tracker.   :clapper:
