My New snake boots...........

Hey everyone....in September, I will be heading down to an area south of Gainsville FL to hunt hogs for a few days and I figured what the heck...I'll try some snake boots, as I have never owned a pair. I purchased a boot called the Steadfast.....made by Danner. I have some experience with Danner, as Ive been wearing them for work for the better part of 13 years now and they have always been a decent boot in my eyes. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these Steadfast snake boots? They are not for cooler weather, but more like a "speed boot" made to be lighter and more comfortable for putting on some miles. They are 17" and "waterproof". I should be getting them in the mail any day now. If anyone owns these or has used them, let me know what you thought of them! Thanks

I use a tall lace-on snake boot by Rocky that is same basic idea as those Danners. My Rockys are comfy over distances (I ground hunt and enjoy a hike to and from spots), quiet and have stayed pretty waterproof over the past three seasons. Those new Danner boots of yours should be more than adequate for Florida. Enjoy.

You have made a wise decision to get the snake boots. I have no experience with the ones you describe, but Danner has a good reputation. Everybody, in my opinion, should always wear snake boots in the south. After all, I have a lot of field experience in the southern woods and have seen a lot of venomous snakes.

I have Danner Jackal snake boots and they have served me well. I won't go turkey hunting without them. Haven't been "hit" with them and I hope I never do. You made a good choice.

Well you guys are certainly helping me out in regards to whether or not my purchase was not necessary or a waste of money..... they are already giving me a little more piece of mind. I'm not scared of snakes by any means.....I'm actually hoping I get to view some.....just not too up close and personal! If I were to get whacked by one and had to deal with the results of what a pair of boots would have prevented, man I would feel like a real jack-ass.

I think you did well getting a pair of snake boots, but also look in the bushes at waist level. Hunting in the south for many years my eyes just pick them out quickly, someone less familiar will need to be observant. Don't play with them, just give them a wide birth and move on. Good luck on the piggies.

Thanks everyone, I'll post the pictured story either during or immediately after the hunt.

Just a thought but in my experience hunting in FL, where hogs are plentiful, snakes are scarce. The pigs scarf 'em up including the poisonous ones - they seem immune to the venom.
