Spirit Gobbler.....?
« on: April 11, 2015, 10:13:00 PM »
The last few days have been just about perfect.  Headed to my place in SE KS we call Bent Oak for some much needed r & r n and turk chasin.
Huckbuck and I have made this a tradition for the past 10 years.  First morning out...everything seemed perfect. No wind...which in KS thats a blessing, sunny, cool.... But the Toms had other ideas.  We were close more than once but headed back to the shabin with memories of close calls good conversation.

This morning, up early to set up before dawn.  Another beautiful morning. Rained some overnight and early in a.m. so when the sun rose....they were eager to make some noise.
Wasn't long....maybe 40 minutes in we had a several come close the shortly after it broke loose.  Spittin', drummin, spinin' and struttin.  Quite a show.
When it was all done Huckbuck and I had nice birds down at about 12 yards. Both Javaman Elkhearts were true.

Back to Bent Oak to spend some time reflecting on a truly great day.  Late evening tonight Huck takes a pic of me standing by a nice campfire....but when we looked at the pic we were amazed.  Seems the fire was speaking to us....what do you see? It that the Spirit Gobbler?....

well done gentlemen, both the shooting and picture taking.  I do believe the spirits of the birds were celebrating with you.

So cool. . .  and you got birds.  WOW.  Impressive.

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Looks like you have magical place there.  Congrats on doubling up trad turkeys.  that is quite a feat!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
