well the weather has cooled down some today, seemed like a good afternoon to hit the woods and maybe get a shot or two at some squirrels.
As I rounded a bend in the woods trail I heard 3 squirrels scolding about 50yrds up ahead. I knew that they weren't hollering at me, so I stopped for a bit just to listen and see what might be going on. About thirty seconds later this very large winged creature comes gliding through the woods and lands in a branch about 20 feet from me. Would you believe it was a great horned owl? Now I've seen them in the woods before, but always when it was close to dark, either early morning or coming on to night. It was 3:30 in the afternoon ! Man talk about stealth, he came in totally silent, made no noise when he landed, sat there for only about 5 seconds, saw me and with the same incredible silence took off and flew away.
A hundred yards farther down the trail, a red fox crossed my path.
With all the hunters in the woods, the squirrels were on high alert! I did manage to get one shot, he was about 18yrds away and 17-18 ft up
