IDAHO ELK ??
« on: April 20, 2015, 07:42:00 PM »
Beginning to plan an OTC Elk Archery hunt in the Sawtooth National Forest for opening 2 weeks, 2015. Any of you Idahoans out there that can share some insight on the area? Will be setting up camp, and have all gear, etc. DIY Interest ONLY.

Thanks in advance!

I went two seasons ago, the wolves were in the area and the elk wouldn't talk. Most of the hunters I ran into were armed but not so much for the bears as for the wolves. I didn't have any problems with either. There are plenty of elk out there, have fun, be safe and I hope you get one.

Hey Scotty,

Cathy and I were there maybe 7 years ago. We spent the night in Stanley, fly fished and went horseback riding up through the Sawtooth NF.  A beautiful area!  We were there the second week of elk season, but not hunting just taking in the area.  We did see a couple bulls that folks had taken.

We hunted a DIY in the Stanley, Idaho area last September.  We saw elk, but no great numbers.  There are wolves there, we saw scat and heard them howl, no close encounters.  The area is absolutely breathtaking.  We were hunting mule deer and saw some.  We stayed in a big Cabela's tent for the week and never "roughed it".  I have a gear list, and could answer any questions from our trip.  PM me.  Here is a photo of our "longbowman crew".  I am on the right, and did not get into shape, obviously, for the trip.  I would suggest getting into shape...as I suffered being that heavy.
