saying goodbye
« on: April 25, 2015, 09:33:00 AM »
Here I sit, in the woods surrounding my home in cny.
I am taking down my treestands in preparation for my move to northern idaho.
The months have turned to weeks before I sell my home and move into temporary  housing and I sit here in my last stand saying goodbye.
As the sun filters thru the trees, the geese honking in the beaver pond behind me, I cant help but think back to the countless days spent here , longbow in hand waiting on the big buck to show himself.
I will miss NY, if only for the hunting and the solitude these woods have given me.
I dont want to get down but I must, idaho is calling.

change can be hard, but it also can be good.  Hopefully you will have plenty of opportunities in Idaho to gain new memories afield.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Many yrs ago I lived in Oregon and you are really going to enjoy it, you will miss NY woods but you are trading up. Your taxes should also improve greatly, for the better also.

Im sure you will find a lot more hunting opportunities in Idaho, but I understand. Took my 8 year old grandson for a ride today showing him places I hunted as a boy, in the same county mind you, and not nearly as scenic, and full of game as where I live now, but nostalgic none the less. He wants to go there, and do those things, with me. He is going to be as sentimental as me, I just know it. Its all good. Explore new places, make the best of what you get, but don't forget what and where you had good memories as well.

Best of luck on your move.......instead of big bucks you can chase elk in the high country.

It's always sad when leaving a place that has been home. I felt the same way when I left Western Washington. But as someone who was born and raised in Spokane, let me assure you that those Idaho mountains hold many exciting adventures ahead. Enjoy.
