Looking for some new braodheads
« on: May 12, 2015, 09:05:00 AM »
Been shooting Magnus for several seasons now and I am looking to change it up.  Looking for a 2 blade at 100gr (shooting Byron Ferguson heavy hunters with inserts and am at 560grains with 100gr. broadheads).  Sort of heading in the direction of Simmons Landsharks but wanted to know if anyone had any other recommendations before I make an order. Thanks in advance!

I'd be inclined to drop the insert weight down a little and put more weight in the broadhead, but Otherwise I think the shark is a pretty good idea.

VPA makes a 100 grain three blade. I've got a number of their bigger heads, and they are great broadheads.

Almost any of the current heads should work fine.  Some thoughts. .  As described above,  maybe rethink the heavy insert / light head thing.  The way that they arrive at a lighter head is to shorten it and use thinner metal.  I like the idea of a longer, stronger head myself.

I would also consider a heavier head and lighter insert. Aluminum footing will reinforce the lighter insert, which will strengthen the arrow overall.

I switched to Simmons a few years back - no plans on ever switching again - unbelievable blood trails.

Thanks for the information guys- I have the 50gr. aluminum inserts that come with them.  What could I bump the head weight up to if I am shooting 50# at my draw length?  Interesting points of view!

I would say let the arrow tell you what you can bump it up to. Meaning, add weight till it starts to show weak. Even then if you want more weight shorten your arrow to stiffen the spine. Your shooting 150 up front now, right? if it was me I would go to 200 up front.

I have and they were awesome! I picked up a half dozen right bevel screwins today for me and the wife to use elk hunting this fall.
