Which shrew style bow do you prefer?
« on: May 15, 2015, 12:24:00 PM »
I know there are several shrew style bows out there.  There are several I am wanting to try out, but would like some feed back from all of the ones who have shot them.

the ones I am interested in are, but not limited to,
Javaman Elkheart
Javaman Falcon
Big Jims Thunder child
Shrew bow

.... feel free to list any other.

If "Shrew" is not the right name for it, i apologize, i think you'll understand what I mean by the bows listed.

Daniel,
I have been mostly a recurve shooter.  Even tho lately I have been delving into longbows, I still am more consistent  with my recurves.

So taking that into account and for what it is worth, I have owned a 56" Shrew Classic Hunter 51# @28"/.  I currently own a 58" Super Shrew Samurai that is listed as 58# but when checked on a bow scale is a hair over 55#.

I personally really like the grip of the shrew CH and Samurai.  I shot both quite well.  Probably shot the CH a littl better due to the lower draw weight.  But, I think I like the 58" better.

I've owned a super shrew, classic hunter, Thunderchild, and Elkheart.  I thought the Elkheart was the best of the bunch.

I have owned 2 thunder child's and one shrew classic hunter. Thunder child is what I currently shoot and shoot the best. I like the grip. It just works for me! And it's so quiet and fast. The shrew ch I loved but the grip didn't work for me. The Palm swell just felt awkward. But it was a quick little bow! Not a bad thing to say about any of them. Never owned a Java man but I've heard great things. I got a bow build with big Jim coming up in August/October. I'm excited!

I have had Super Shrews,Shrew Classic Hunter's,Griffins and Thunderchild's.They are all excellant.Never had a Javaman Elkheart.

The Kanati 60 incher that I had was an excellant all around shooter for sure and worth a serious look in that style of bow.

I think what you are referring to is a forward handle aggressive D/R design and there are many.

What I like about the Shrew line rather built by McCullough, Coffey or Deshler is the unique grip that places my hand consistently in the same place.

If I were to try a different Shrew bow it would be the Model "T".  Check out Ron LaClaires site to check those out.  Slightly longer riser.

I love my bow bolt Shrews made by Gregg Coffey.  I have a 58" Super Shrew and two 54" Classic Hunters. The grip works for me.

The 54-56" bows are amazing for a real short bow, but my favorite (could only have one) bow would be the 60" Super Shrew or JavaMan Falcon. They are still short enough for me and they have the shooting qualities of a much longer bow.

I have 1 elkheart 2 thunder children 2 shrew samurai a Greg and a McCullough built one  and i had a kanti plus a fair few more in this style and id rate them as follows

1. Elkheart
2. Shrew Gregg built
3. Thunder child
4. Shrew McCullough
5. Kanati
All of the bows wear 65-85#@29 and 56" 2 pc ecept for the Kanati being a 1pc and the the McCullough  shrew is 58"
And when funds permit il order a shrew built by Charles

I think the best fitting grip is really a deciding factor. Only one of the bows I've had, or shot, was a 58" Falcon. Absolutely loved the bow. From the moment I took it out of the box, the grip just fit my hand perfectly. Would get another in a minute, though I'd try a 60" Falcon, or 58" Elkheart. I like a little longer limb than strictly necessary.

Daniel      :wavey:    I've got a Shrew Classic Hunter/Java Man Elkheart/Big Jim Thunder Child/Jim Reynolds Thunder Stick Mag all 56".
All are well crafted and great shooters   :archer2:
What slowbowjoe says about the grip and feel of the bow should be your deciding factor.
